Need some help with LPS

There's the phosphate ULR kit, standard low range, and the high range kit. If it just says phosphate you're still good to go. If you're concerned about accuracy, you can cross check with another type of test i.e. Salifert, or Red Sea
 
So, maybe someone could chime in. If it was a lighting issue, or at least in part, how come when I had no fish in there, all the coral was fully extended and growing like crazy, then a few weeks after the fish go back in, they start looking crappy?
