hey guys my zoas never seem to be well or thrive. they dont die or anything and their is growth, but for some reason they never remain open throughout the day. they are always openned then closed. never seem to be like tanks that i see that their zoas are fully oppened the whole day and thriving. Lights come on and they will open , by mid day they start to kinda close up. usually at around 6 hour mark of the lights comming on they start to close. my tank is a 40 gallon breeder, water parameters are perfect , running Reef Radiance Dm-155e led light at 60percent blue and whites at 40percent for 4 hours a day. light is hanging 14 inches above water. i feed oyster feast and reef chicks coral mojo. i have no clue why they act like this. any ideas or opinions?

thanks

Maybe your lights are to bright. Have you tried less intense setting to see what happens?
ive tried everything . tried lowering intensity, but when i do they seem to do the same plus start to extend for my light. put them on less or more flow, different areas in the tank, different foods and nothing

your lights are not too bright.

also your only running them for 4hours? why such short amount of photo period?

only for 4 hours cause im acclimating the whites very slowly. how long should photo period be ? ive heard so many different answers. some tell me to run no whites at all only blue. \

idk if you think im running lights on for only 4 hours a day. i mean i run my whites for 4 hours a day . 8 hours is the total amount of light per day. morning blues turn for 2 hours, then whites come on , whites and blues run together for 4 hours, then whites shut off and blues go alone again for another 2 hours before the lights go off

what are you switching from ? if your acclimating them to the tank? so 4hours seems a bit to short. we are running are 2 LED fixtures over our 65G from 7am - 1030pm.

1.025 nothing really higher then 1.027 then they start to do bad.

i just got my new refractometer today and realized ive been running my tank at 1.028-1.030 for quite some time. is this enough to cause the zoas to do this. all other corals seem perfect.

im switching from T5s to led but its been about 6 months now . im just so scared to bleach so im acclimating whites very slowly. my goal is to run 45percent whites for 6 hours a day. what you think ?

What confuses me is their colors are fine , growth is good, they dont die off or anything. they are perfect except dont remain fully openned the whole day . they are always opened and then closed.

what are you holding in your tank? SPS/Zoas CHalices?

i have ATI 8bulb and LEDS. i toss around SPS and zoas like no tomorrow in the tanks. nothing ever dies only does better from tank to tank lol. if i need something to color up right under the T5s it goes. :o

This can be a problemmmmmmmmmmmm

when ever i hit 1.028-30 my Zoas start acting up like crazy. they hate it when that happens.

Having same issues myself with my 40 breeder. Not sure what it is. Might be flow as I'm waiting on my 2 wp10s to come in if they ever do

Ive put them on all types of different flow. and no help. they seem to do best with some flow. with to much flow they wont open and with no flow they just act the same , maybe stay closed up a bit longer. i see people tanks that their zoas do amazing wherever they put them .
