In your OP you mentioned that PH drops low at night... I wouldn't consider 8.3 low. Those ph numbers are just about perfect. My tank runs 8.0 - 8.2 night to day. Every tank is differant thought. having said that 7.1 ph for the efflo is low and should be driving your ph lower than the 8.3 number. if you are using a ph probe to keep ph numbers I would recalibrate. My hunch is that the 7.1 efflow is driving the tank ph down at night more than you might be seeing. However, you said that you do dose kalk so that should stabilize it... perhaps its the ph swing thats an issue. I would definately NOT use any kind of buffer or make ph corrections. recalibrate the probe with fresh solution. getting a second chamber would be a good thing as well to keep the ph more stable, you really want the elflow to come out 7.8 or higher. If demand for cal and alk isn't crazy you could also tweek the cal. reactor a bit so the efflow comes out slower into tank. see if you can get away without having to get that second chamber. sorry i'm rambling, just thinking out loud.

whats your drip rate for efflow into your tank? 1/sec, 2/sec or other?

Run 2 ph probes on the tank all recently calibrated
Both read the same1030 west cost time ph is at 8.5
Rapid drip
