Nem acclimation

ah... well on brighter side -- you have access to some terrific fish and corals for a better price than we do on this end of the world. :)
In Queensland yes but we are in melbourne. We had a holiday there in November of last year and they have so much more exotic creatures

Interesting... didnt realize there was a difference in options between the two areas. Do you know why? (I figured they would ship elsewhere across your small island there ;) )

Queensland is the northern state, right next to the barrier reef and tropical in climate. Melbourne is in Victoria, down the bottom of aust. Crowded House must have been describing Melbourne when they sang ‘Four Seasons in One Day’

I figured folks up north would ship down to your spot... and at not much incremental cost compared to shipping over here to the US. :)

on a side note -- here's a clean shot of my latest nem... so bright it took me multiple tries with a DSLR to get a decent, in-focus shot. Notice the reflection off the nem onto the surrounding media? :D

I shall call this one "glowstick"!

We can get them shipped but at a hefty cost and our couriers aren’t exactly ‘gentle’ with packages. Even when marked as fragile. I wouldn’t want to risk harming the creatures. I’ll just drool over everyone else’s beauties and watch David Attenboroughs blue planet over and over

We received our new anemone today. I used @Amoo ’s method and it worked well. His was the method I always used in the old days. As I have returned to reefing I convinced myself there was a logic to drip acclimating. I admit this was mistaken. Especially for a shipped anemone. The foulness of the water he arrived in made it clear. I floated for 20 minutes and then placed him in his spot. He stuck within seconds and in 8 hours has only moved 3”.

I always use this method for my BTAs:
Float for 15-20 minutes to acclimate temperature.
Open bag, pick up nem, and hold it for a few seconds out of the water.
As soon as it hits air, it will expel all of the water it was holding.
Place in tank.

I have done this for all of the recent BTAs I have bought. I got this method from my LFS. I was skeptical but it works. They expel all their water, so now the water parameter matching isn’t an issue and you’ve already matched temp. I know, it sounds crazy, but I find it works well.

I want a glow stick. That thing is awesome.

If it splits, I will PM you... :) plus, with time in my tank, I'll confirm to see if it truly stays that bright...so you'll get that benefit too!

I have a razor blade and a zip lock bag I can share [emoji23]

Yea, very interested to know if it stays that way. I assume your lights aren’t the same as where you bought it, so there is some adjusting, but if it stays anywhere close to that bright it’s awesome.

On the light part, I also just changed light mix and scheduling to experiment to see if I can get consistent bubbles... so will be in flux for awhile...

I'm optimistic on the coloration though...

Btw, here's what it looks like in pure indirect sunlight. Early evening, outside... nuff said.

I fluoresces so much the it shines super bright... and practically glows. I collect at lot of interesting nems and never come across something like this...

Where do you get these things from? I have an insane LFS but best they seem to ever have is a green dayglow or a black widow. You’ve got some crazy colors going on.
