I have my Apex running AWC for me and on the whole it is working amazingly well. I actually love it. I noticed today however my sump level was getting higher so obviously either my DOS was not removing enough water during the cycle or pumping too much in. I calibrated the pumps to check they were ok but it was still happening. I then noticed in the hose taking dirty water from the aquarium a small blockage of coral sand that had made its way to my sump. I have now cut the pipe shorter so it is not picking anything up from the bottom of my sump and I do keep my sump very clean. My question is can I get some sort of filter for the end of the hose that won't alter the speed in which it draws water? I could see this happening quite often to be honest.

For the very reason you state, I have a filter media bag over both the hoses from the tank and also from the fresh saltwater tank to avoid blockages.

Part of my DOS tubing would be difficult to get at, so I wanted to try and avoid blockages from the start

It doesn’t affect the flow provided it’s all submerged and doesn’t float

Certainly a good option as well...

Well this is exactly why I'm asking as my lines run about 16m across the loft of my office and down into a shower cubicle in a small bathroom. The office used to be a house. I can access them but it is a total pita. So a filter bag....interesting

Yeah, sounds like you have a long run there. Totally understandable. For me, the tubing is in an unfinished basement control room, so no biggie.

I just thought I may be able to get something to stick on the end of the tubing like a small filter of some kind. Filter bag may just do it though although as my salt mixes it may get blown around a bit...Thank you though guys!

Fasten the media bag onto the DOS tube with a plastic zip tie wrapped around it at the top we’re the tube goes through, nice and tight and problem solved.

I have this exact same concern. I have been looking for a similar filter and I noticed that Reefbot actually comes with one. It may not be worth the price to buy just one after the cost of shipping, but I wonder if we can find something similar here is the link.

-edit-
Shipping appears to be free. The cost is $7 per filter. Might be worth it?
