I have a 15 gal Fluval Flex with LPS, Zoas, and GSP. I just got the Nero 3 today and love the controllability. Not sure what settings I should be running it at though. My current schedule is below

I m afraid to go much higher then this because I have 2 beautiful torches that are kind of in the stream of the pump that get whipped around aggressively if it goes any higher.

Just curious if anyone else has gotten their hands on a Nero 3 and set it up yet in a nano tank

I think that's just a copy of Mobius, here's a pic of Mobius. That's why I asked, heard they were gonna integrate the AI stuff in but don't remember where I did. Either way, good to know.

oh interesting! yup looks like 100% rip off hahaha

Haha, I immediately thought it looks like the Mobius app lol. I don’t have a Nero 3, so I can’t really help you. I have 2 MP40s at high power; reefcrest during lights on and lagoon mode during lights off.

can you explain the difference between those two modes? I don't know what that means lol.. do you keep the same flow % day and night?

Oh sorry, reefcrest is mainly high, random flow for my SPS and other corals too. Lagoon is like gentle waves. I just checked my app and I run them at 65% all day and night. However, my tank is a 75g and yours is a nano.

I would reduce at night but that’s not really necessary. For example, if daytime I liked 50% random flow and that felt right at night I would set it at 30% maybe 20%. Have never had any ill effects using that methodology. I think the fish appreciate it. Hahaha

I don’t have the 3’s, I have the 5’s, but the basis of my opinion on this is the same... adjust by flow rate, not by percentage. Figure out what flow rate or overall turnover you are shooting for, find that rate (in any given combination of modes), then set the percentages for the modes based off of the flow goals. My understanding is that these pumps max at 2,000 gph, so 50% might be thought of as 1,000 gph, but it is likely not.

Here is a thread that explains this and it includes a table for the 5 that won’t translate to the 3, but will give you an idea of the differences between the percentage settings and flow.

My guess is that because the max for the 3 is less, the gap differences are less, but someone with a 3 would need to verify.

I think @EmilyXLC has a Nero 3. She doesn’t log in all the time so please be patient for a reply.

ok thanks! My issue right now is that I have a torch that is kind of in the direct shot of it (not really but it is close enough) where if I have the flow too high, he gets thrown around pretty hard and I don't have any other spots to put him right now

I have a Nero 5 but I run it based on how my corals react. You’ll fiddle with the settings plenty! No one else can really tell you what to run. Positioning can make a huge difference on these as they have a wide flow pattern. I have mine top centre of the tank.

I guess this was our lucky day-- I actually logged in! LOL

I'm going to be honest-- I'm actually not sure what mine is running on. I installed mine into my Peninsula Mini 25 and plugged it in, and it immediately turned on and was at the ideal speed for me, so I left it alone. I never even got around to syncing it to the myAI app, either! I'm not sure if this function is just because it's a pre-production model... sorry, I don't feel like I was too helpful. :(

Are any of you guys having trouble with the pulse setting? I have my whole schedule on pulse, 2% flow with 2sec on and 10sec off but it never actually turns off and pulses. It seems to be constantly on

Yeah I notice this too. I think the negative (low) pulse isn’t off but rather 1% flow rate

might be an issue with the fact it’s a DC pump or something, not really sure

Ahh that makes sense why I dont see much of a change. I got this pump today at my LFS because I want it for my 20g cube that I haven’t set up yet, looks like it’s a tad too powerful for my 5g

Nero pumps don’t pulse on/off. They pulse from lowest speed to the speed you set.

Tap on the graphic and it will show you the speed as it pulses. This is a screen shot mid pulse so it’s reading the minimum speed of a Nero 5

The only thing I hate about it is I like to turn off my one power head at night to give fish a little break and the is no setting to turn it for from 8 to 6 am unless I missed somthing
