Yea, I'll into something like what you have. I don't think I would go much more than the 120 you have. Don't have that much space or budget. I think no matter how big I go, I'll hit your issue with wanting more. There are just so many things to put in a tank that I would want!

Oh yea, you said you wish you had gotten a cube. Do you suggest Cube or Wide? Or is it purely preference? Are some fish better in one or the other?

like the thread and awesome tank, will follow along

Any tank with some depth looking from front to back. By depth I don’t mean the height. That’s why I’ve always liked 120 gal foot prints. Cubes do the same thing. I had this tank custom made but you could buy a Red Sea and it would be similar.

Makes sense. The most beautiful display tanks always have depth. more room for creativity in aquascaping too. Thanks for the tips!

I just read your thread. Awesome job! Love the tank [emoji7] I currently have a 55 gallon mixed reef, but the Red Sea Reefer 525 XL is my dream tank. Hoping to get one in a year or two. I'm nervous about transferring everything. I've had my fish for 3 years now without a loss, and not sure best way of planning the transfer. New tank would be in different spot in the same room. Since I would need more rock and sand anyway, should I setup the new tank with new rock and sand, and let it cycle first?

I’ve done this several times with success over the years. I always use new sand but use as much old tank water as possible and just slowly add rock and you’ll be fine. Just make the difference in water so it’s ready and do it quickly. I’ve also helped other people do it. You just need to make sure your alk levels and temp are similar. There won’t be much of a cycle other than some diatoms in your sand.

It has been a while since I updated my thread. I decided to plumb in a 24x24x12 frag tank made by truvu. I made a custom steel stand for it too. Also, in the last few months there have been a few significant changes in equipment. I sold my tunze powerheads and went for MP40qd’s and went with a vortech return pump too. I needed an upgrade with my new manifold. I also added an MP10 and kessil 360we to the frag tank. The frag tank is up and nearly full of high end zoas now. I do plan on selling zoas and shrooms out of it in the future. (I’m going to need a bigger frag tank ) Enjoy the pics:

Time to update the thread. I recently upgraded my lights to radion (2) XR30’s. Currently my coral is getting acclimated to them but I love them. Money well spent. Also, a week ago I was able to stop by Vivid aquariums and pick up some frags. Brandon was kind enough to let me get some out of the 800 gal as well. To be honest I was a little overwhelmed with what to choose as I’m running out of real estate. And frankly he has some of the nicest SPS in the biz. Here’s a few pics. Seriously thinking of upgrading to a larger sps only tank and converting this 120 to a frag tank....

I recently plumbed in a second frag tank. Now my total system volume is around 180 gals. I’m running a hydra 32 HD on it. So far I’m loving the fixture. Here’s some photos of the color my radions are producing in the display :
