IMG_6722.JPG IMG_6705.JPG My perfect build has taken a bad turn. A week after my tank was set up my stand developed a crack. The tank manufacturer says its cosmetic and they will give me $100 bucks back from a $750 stand or replace it. Problem is replacing it isn't that easy. I've got a lot of coral and fish everything will have to be pulled apart and placed back in the same day as I don't have another tank set up. IMO Visio could have offered a couple hundred bucks and a replacement stand for the trouble this is going to be. I'm out a day of work and risking my livestock. To make matters worse I ordered a Deltec skimmer through marine depot and they haven't provided a trucking number. It's been 7 days! They are blaming Deltec as it was drop shipped from their US warehouse... This build was going perfect until now...
 
Hugs. I'd ask for the manufactor for more, a lot more. Can't hurt to ask. All they can say is no.

So I decided I wanted to go with a new stand instead of taking the 100 bucks. (Rediculous offer). Now Visio put the brakes on the stand and said the builder wouldn't build me a new stand just repair my damaged one and I'd have to send it in??? I called Visio directly instead of going through my LFS and the story quickly changed. Apparently, the big boss called the stand maker and chewed some butt. The good news is they are building me a new stand, the bad news is I won't get it until Nov 14 and I'll have to do another tank swap. Not looking forward to that. As for the Deltec skimmer I ordered, IT NEVER SHOWED 2 weeks later. Marine Depot blamed Deltec. Looks like the same old same old for Deltec. I canceled the order and went with a Nyos 160. Breaking it in tonight.

Everything is going well in the tank. I've been getting more growth under T5s in just a month than I did in 6 months under kessils. Color is great too!
NOT looking forward to breaking this down again though.

Successful break in for the Nyos. This is 24 hours of skim. I'd say it was the easiest skimmer I've ever broke in. Probably one of the nicest looking too! And I've had some pretty high end skimmmers over the years. No buyer remorse here.

Sorry to hear about the trouble with the stand. Great looking tank and setup, regardless. Seeing rimless 120s makes me wish I had gone rimless/custom on my build.

Yeah it's frustrating but even more frustrating to see a crack in a new stand that looks like it could expand. They did a fantastic job on the tank build but handled this stand issue horribly.

I have a similar grow light and mine took off with it as well.

Good call on not taking the payment for the stand, even if it does mean more work. That money would quickly be gone and you'd still have to look at that dang crack every single day...that would drive me nuts.
 
Yeah you won't regret replacing the stand. Tear down & rebuild of the tank contents isn't ever as bad as you expect - and kinda fun really. Just be sure to plan on holding tanks for the livestock that can go longer term. It may take more time than you anticipate.

Yeah the new stand is supposed to be done next week. I guess they are upgrading the wood quality. I'm glad I used unions in my plumbing. Not looking forward to the transfer but the crack has gotten worse...

Well my replacement stand arrived today. Just busted out a tank re-transfer in 5 hours. Not fun but a huge burden is off my back. I decided to go with new sand since I had to disturb the sand bed. The owner of my LFS threw it in. Blue Planet Aquarium in Fresno, CA is awesome! This stand is supposed to be made from more premium wood. Now it's a waiting game for my water to clear up so I can re-scape....

Now you can repair/reinforce the old stand and put a frag tank on it. ;-)
I'd be curious to see more detailed pics of the stand construction - interested in why it failed.

Everything has been going well since the stand switch. My coral has been doing fantastic. Picked up several different acans and a few more sps over the Black Friday sales. The only problem I've had has been suicidal wrasses. One jumped out and croaked that I've had for almost a year. The other jumped out while I was watching and I saved him. Purchased new bulbs for my fixture today. Had to raise it up so I don't shock the coral.
