got some of my plumbing today and my 20l for my sump...was wondering if a 500 gph pond pump would work for my return pump

It depends on ur head height I have a mag 5 on my 55 but it's only pushing about 250 gph because of the 3 ft head I would go with a 700 instead of 5 ill be upgrading to that soon

Define "regular sand". If "regular sand" is play sand, I'll argue to the end of the earth against it. I've used play sand and had constant algae problems, as well as the ugly brownish color. Now, if "regular sand" is the same thing as live sand, minus the nitrifying bacteria, I won't disagree. But that's kinda like being from East Tennessee and saying "Grab me a coke." "What kind?" "Dr. Pepper."

Any kind of calcium based sand.

I personally like the larger grain sands myself.

Yea i want somthing that wont blow around real easy...im going with the ocean direct or the pink fiji not real sure which one yet

My advice...just get sand. I am not a fan of buying the bags of "live" sand. I mean...how do they keep it alive for months and months? There is no oxygen in there, and no food for the bacteria. If there is food, it would rot/spoil, and create other chemical issues.

Personally....I got all my sand from other reefers that were shutting down their system. Some of it was dry.

I gotta clarify... I said "live sand" because everyone knows the difference between live sand and play sand. Crushed coral is another option, although I suggest against it.

Yeah, I agree...I wasn't talking about playground stuff either. Definitely the real ocean sand. Crushed coral is ok if it's ground fine enough. One thing to remember is that if you plan to get certain wrasses, they need a finer sand because they burrow down into it at night.
