Any kind of calcium based sand.
Good clarification. I just couldn't come up with the word for it.

Seems like I've seen some in the fish stores that's dry. I would look for that.

Define "regular sand". If "regular sand" is play sand, I'll argue to the end of the earth against it. I've used play sand and had constant algae problems, as well as the ugly brownish color. Now, if "regular sand" is the same thing as live sand, minus the nitrifying bacteria, I won't disagree. But that's kinda like being from East Tennessee and saying "Grab me a coke." "What kind?" "Dr. Pepper."

I personally like the larger grain sands myself.

I mean regular sand like the stuff you can buy from a fish store, but not the ones that come with water in them. You can't use Home Depot sand because of all the silicates in it.

IMO I use the special grade sand from d4 foster n Smith sells, its not too big like crushed coral so u can still have sand sifters and it looks like a natural reef sand bed. And its not too fine so it clouds ur tank, if you some " life" in it just add a small bag of the live sand...thats what I did!! Thats my 2 cents lol
