Still really excited for this! Was hoping to hear more info soon. :D

Oh you will! Let me get back from my trip and I'll fill " ya all" in [emoji41][emoji6]

Any update @120reefkeeper ? Anyone else using the AF Life Source? I read @Anirban's thread on it regarding his restart and seems to have solid results, just want a little more information before I add it to my tank :). The new food sources seem awesome, too!

What you want to know about life source? It increases biodiversity of your system and a natural product. I love it because its natural and generates a feeding response in the corals.

Wanted to hear some of the long term success with it and what it all contains. Seems like something similar to miracle mud but more user friendly?

Actually its hard to define long term success with this kind of product. This is exactly not a chemical which will show a direct effect on your coral colours. It contains some mineral (unknown) and a lot of micro organisms which help you to build a biodiversity. This in turn will help you in long run to run a stabilised and balanced system.

It's hard to give you long term success when no one has had it long term. Lol

I can emphatically say that as long as I've used it , I've seen an increase in pod populations. I've also seen an increase in sponges.

Also as a side note .... my water gets very clear after using it.

There are some medium term results at least in the reef central thread:

Seems as though everyone is happy so far and haven't seen any negatives. Though nothing necessarily conclusive I suppose.

I think I'm likely to try it out, though I do have a couple of questions.

From reading these threads and seeing some of the things that they've said I get that it is a container of mud collected from somewhere around Fiji. And you add it to the tank a scoop at a time, dissolving it into the water in a high flow area.

So conceptually you could see how trace elements / minerals are being added and how this could be a good thing.

In terms of the life side of it would it be possible to get a bit more information about the production process.

What I am looking to learn is how long the mud is out of the ocean and how long it is in the sealed canisters?

Has Aquaforest (or anyone else) looked at the mud coming out of the containers under a microscope to see how much of the bacterial life is still viable?

My other question relates to the dosing of it. My impression is the for miracle mud and others you add it in bulk to the bottom of a refugium or similar. Why the difference here?

Maybe @Debora Dlugopolska can help?

I actually just put the little bucket in my sump.
I found it just dirtied the sand, as it has to settle somewhere.

Meaning actually just took the lid off and put the tub in your sump? Or is there a little measuring bucket?
Took the lid off, took the mud out of the sealed bag and put it right in.
It does come with a portion scoop.

Then what happened?
I mean is it in the flow and have you seen erosion indicating its mixing into the water?
Any changes you've noticed?

Tony
No.
Its just mud in a bucket.
We cant test for anything in regards to this. I just wanted to add a little life to my sump / semi cryptic area.

Hey, I would suggest not to put the whole thing together. It will give you a nutrient and mineral imbalance. It dissolves in water quite well so that much of stuff in the sump is not good for stability of the system. Thats why they gave you a spoon to use and add some at a single shot. Miracle mud releases nutrient and mineral but stays there but this thing dissolves in water so it will dissolve and create a shock to your system.

I can see your point very well, expecially in a mature system, mine is newer, young and not established needing life. Rushed? Maybe time will tell.
I agree, I Would NOT recommend this.
I will keep updated on anything I notice one way or another.

Sorry to revive this old thread but haven't seen much info lately. Do you have any news to share? Did you see any (positive or negative) changes?

I just received the Aquaforest Life Source, my question is do I place this in my sump that way it is or mix with my tank water first to dissolve the mud before pouring in a high flow area which is in my DT. Confused...:(

You can actually do it either way. I prefer to mix it with some tank water and then just pour it back into a high flow area. It will make your tank cloudy. This is no concern and will clear in an hour or so.
