Ordered my first pair of designer clownfish on Friday. I've been searching for a while for a nice black clown but trying to find one with some cool patterns. Finally saw one last week at Just Clownin' Around and after going back and forth a bit I finally pulled the trigger. Ordered a nice snowflake at the same time to pair up hopefully. Was very excited to get them and I've never been more nervous about a fish order lol! Ok so here's some pics from yesterday. Some aren't great, I'll try to get better ones today or tomorrow.
Talk about being freaked out when the fedex guy says, this box says perishable but it's leaking! Aaahh! Opened it as quick as I could but I don't think I breathed...

Pushed some of the peanuts around and could see they were floating in water.

Could see the bag and one of the fish but couldn't tell if it was ok...

Found the other fish, still couldn't tell exactly how they were. I could see that one fish was out of the bag and one in though...
onein-oneout.JPG

Both out and swimming, looking relatively happy considering their obviously adventurous trip! I have no idea what fedex did to this box!

Couple more pictures. Not all very clear but still can get an idea of what they look like. I'm super stoked to have them! They are in a 10g quarantine tank now. Wouldn't eat yesterday but hopefully today they will and I can feel a little better! Thanks for looking, I'll try to update with better pictures.

Also wanted to say that Rich from JCA has been awesome to deal with! He's answered all of my questions patiently and has gone beyond what I would expect from most vendors or any vendor that I've personally ever dealt with. Thanks a lot!

i had some cope's del the other day and the driver handed me the wrong box. so i showed him the name on the box and he THREW it through the drivers window and it bounced off the pass seat bouncing off the dash board then landing on the floor. so i said W.T.H dude why did you do that? he replied saying ah it doesnt say "FRAGILE" on it so im NOT required to handle it diffrently. as he was laughing. PUTZ

I hate how they handle packages, even when labeled clearly live animals. Should have seen what they did to a box labled "live AMMUNITION" when I ordered a case of rounds for my other expensive hobby.
Good looking clowns, glad they were unharmed

great looking clowns from JCA!

I agree with everyone on UPS/FedEx drivers... luckily, I have good drivers that know me. The problem usually in transit.

wow. I'm glad they are alive and looks like they'll be fine. keep us posted.

WOW!! glad the clowns are fine. and very nice by the way

maybe its just me but, why did the bags fail? did they burst, come untied.......?

I would say it was partially the shippers fault

I recently got a order of clowns,(from different vendor) they were individually bagged with 3 bags bags seperatly sealed and 3 rubber bands on each bag. the shipper made sure they would arrive unharmed

I was wondering about that as well. it might be coz of the breathable bags? at least that's what the bags look like (breathable)..

Yeah not sure what happened honestly. I threw the packing stuff away, it was definitely a breathable bag. I meant to check if it was broken or what happened but forgot and it's in the dumpster now. I know it was still tied so that wasn't the issue. I still have the box but that doesn't tell much. So I really don't know and at this point I'm just happy they're in good shape.

They've been eating now and look pretty happy in the quarantine tank. Although they stay right at the front of the glass haha. They don't really go around the tank much yet.

I gave them some frozen marine cuisine (thawed) but they didn't go for it. They're eating Hikari Marine S right now and I'm going to try to get some cyclops. I feed my main tank frozen mysis and marine cuisine, etc, so I want to get them used to it before they get in the bigger tank.

Here's a video of the onyx picasso from JCA:

There's a trick to breathable bags, you have to bag them extremely loose. The bags are thin and if you bag them too tight and the delivery company doesn't handle them like fragile contents, the bags can break/burst. I usually bag fishes in breathable extremely loose and put them in a 2nd breathable bag to be sure if it breaks, hopefully the 2nd bag will hold the water. The only problem with extremely loose is fish may get caught in the corners, so you can rubber band off the corners if that's a concern before putting into 2nd breathable bag.

In looking at your original picture, it looks like 2 fishes bagged together in a single breatable bag. And since it was still tied, the bag may have been too tight and burst because of harse handling.

I've shipped several hundred fish without incidence. Unfortunately I can't control how FedEx or Ups handle the packages. A friend of mine brought 4 fishes from sea and reef and 2 came in doa. The other two came in mocha and not solid black. Things happen. I would of stood behind my product. I used the name of this company because it seems like you are real familiar with them.

2 fish in the same bag. Not too tight. No more than 2 in a single bag otherwise you run into problems

It does look like the delivery was little rough with that package... this is why I usually even double bag the breathable bags.

Hey Rich, I've seen a lot of great feedback that your customers have given you, so no doubt you take care of it... if anything did go wrong.
