I just got a new bubble magus curve 5 installed on red sea 250 and its overflowing crazy even with the lowest setting!(max is lowest setting in magus 5). When i adjust it higher it just overflows faster.I know skimmers need time to break in for a couple of days but is it normal to overflow to the max? i had other skimmers in the past and it even overflow like this.

ps the depth is about 7inch from bottom and im using media block to raise about a inch.

Might just need a bit to break in like stated. Is it in the correct water level range?

Had the same issue mine. I raised up a fair bit and still had to put a valve on the air intake. Choked the air right down and eventually it settled enough to take the valve off. Try that or run it in a bucket for a few days.
it’s frustrating but eventually it will work. Good luck

what was the depth of it? How long did it take to settle down? im kinda afraid overflowing is causing crazy micro bubble and not sure how it effects my tank whether in a negative way or postive way.

I had mine in as little as about 4.5” and I lowered it recently and had to put the valve back on. The air valve was key to getting mine dialled in.

Takes awhile to break them in but once you get it dialed they work really well.
I had to raise mine in the water to about an inch or so over the intake. I think the reccomended depth is too deep.
Try raising it to lower depth.

I will keep it running for couple of days and lets see what happens. The lowest i can go is 8 inch and current depth is 7 inch with media block on bottom.

Yeah i have mine in about 5 inches of water. You may have to figure out a way to raise it higher.
i will put a egg plate under it. Is magus 5 silent? cuz mine is really loud. Im not sure if its due to overflowing.

I did a water change and put the water i took out from the tank in a container and ran my skimmer in that for a week till it settles down.

I have an older curve 5 with the Rock SP1000 pump. I run it in 7 inches of water. The recommended 9.5”-11” inch water depth is way to deep for this skimmer. This skimmer is extremely loud. The sicce pump would have been a better choice likely. I’m not sure it was available as an option 3 years ago though.

I believe I have the older model as well.
Mine is quiet.

I got the same skimmer and its super sensitive just give it time.

ok but mine is really loud. its like a generator! is that usually normal?
No thats not normal I have same one. Mine is quiet. Perhaps you have bad pump did you buy it brand new? Stock pump that came with it?

When I first purchase mine it was pretty dang quiet. Then after a couple of years it starting getting really loud. I would pull it apart and clean it every few months. I tried pretty much everything. Impeller was in good shape. Maybe something with the shaft or magnet. Idk. I agree they’re pretty quite. I bet the Sicce pumps are even quieter. I’m anxious to see how much quieter dc pumps really are. I’ll be using a Reef Octopus regal 200int for my new tank. It runs off a Varios 4 pump. This will be my first DC ran skimmer.

Interesting. I do have the sicce pump mod as well as cone bubble mod just never used them. All I do to clean my pump is fill sink up with water and vinegar and let it run for awhile. Bought mine barely used. Not sure if it ever had salt water in it. Been running like a charm for 8 months now.
Would like to hear what you find.
