New Clownfish! | First ever saltwater fish.

I think those are gladiator clowns or DaVinci clownfish. Beautiful and healthy looking either way.
I actually think they are DaVinci, after some research!!

They sell for $130 for a pair -

Price varies a lot based on location and grades. They seem a less common then snowflakes though.

The variation I have sells for $140+ for a pair. I got my pair for $90.

It seems mine are “Grade A”, which can get up to $140.

they are 45 each for grade A on cultivated reef with snowflakes being a bit cheaper. I think that is the sale price they have going though.

I personally like the Davinci better than snowflakes :O

I have a beautiful davinci, he lost his partner about 1 year ago to jumping (I was sick and someone else fed them and did not close it up. They loved jumping for food. Crazy fish. Mine is only a few years old now.
Good deal any way you look at it. I actually love the snowflakes too.

It may just be my LFS that is expensive, because it's hard to get quality fish up here.

Are clowns known for jumping? I don't have a lid...

Congrats! I’m digging the colors My first SW fish were my “extreme” black ice clowns. Dubbed Bonnie and Clyde by my lady. Got them both for 72$ from my LFS. Had them two years and they’re still going strong.

Thank you! I love just about every clown (okay maybe I love maroons from a safe distance lol). But I’m partial to the black ice lol I’m not sure what make mine “extreme”. But they have only gotten prettier as they’ve grown. Yours will be stunners as they get bigger I have no doubt

Edit: Siri must be drunk. Autocorrect has been awful today lol

As stated above, any fish can jump. Clowns are not regularly known for jumping, but..... There is always a but.
They will protect their tank and jump at anything that comes near it once mated and spawing. Mine would jump up at me when I tried to feed it and actually jumped out at least twice (when I had my 29g JBJ AIO). The ones that jumped would only do so when eating. They would just get so excited and jump like crazy.

I have had them jump into the overflow and out when being bullied as part of the dominance thing. I cover most of my tanks: my main tank definitely, my little ones, yes (except when others forget). My grow outs and coral qt, no. That is where the issues happened in past. If you are keeping fish that may squabble, they will jump.

Just make a easy lid of clear mesh and screen framing from the local hardware store. Easy and cheap. Lots of videos of how to do this. These are the ones I have on my main tank. I have them for my other tanks if needed from mesh/egg crate.

Good thing you didn’t go with the yellow watchman then, it’s not a question of if, but when they’ll jump (and it’s usually not long). Regardless, I’d work on getting a lid ASAP.

It actually took about a year before the smallest of my clowns felt safe in the entire territory and in the first couple of days it really did not want to leave the exact spot where I had first put it after I acclimated it. The bigger fish was more courageous and quickly learned how to lure the smaller fish around in different areas. After that they started dancing and playing all over the tank without restraint. They do seem to enjoy having a place they can go into "hover" mode on the current. Places like at corners, near powerheads or at good spots near rocks where the current makes it easy for them to hover but if they are allowed to get comfortable with the entire tank, they will dance and play in the entire tank.
