I picked up diamond spot goby yesterday about 3" long. He spent about 2 hours about the tank then proceeded to dig his burrow and I haven't seen him since. A little over 24 hours. I have a very peaceful tank with no issues between fish. Tank mates are a blue chromis, purple fire fish, flame tail Blenny, line spot flasher wrasse, royal gramma, red scooter dragonet, and an oscellaris clown that recognizes nothing but his nem. No one chased him, but they all checked him out. So is it a normal thing for him to hide a while? Thanks in advance

It can be normal for them to hide when first introduced and feel safe. Also make sure your rock structures are very stable as it could burrow and cause rock slides. You could direct some food towards its burrow to see if it encourages it to come out.

Thanks Desmond. I will try that this evening. I have a solid base so I can remove all my sand and nothing will fall over. Glad I did that!

Hate to hijack but how do you guys deal with all the sand in the water column

I already have to keep everything like 8 inches from the bottom mine does a great sifting job lol

Thats why I dont have sand sifters ;)
too much sand in corals lol I have nass. snails for that

I bought one to keep my sand clean but I had to return it after a month because I was tired of having tiny sand particles floating around always. It's a fish with cool personality but is super messy.

Thanks for all the comments and discussion. I keep no corals on the sand or very near the bottom. I like the sand sifters and the goby shrimp pairs. Just can't have those with coral on the bottom!

May I add one of these sand gobies in a 24 gallon nano cube or do they need bigger tanks? The lights in this nano cube are so strong, the sand becomes brown in literally 3 days, I'd love for this goby to do his work :)

Mine is in a 30 long.

Make sure you have plenty of sand as they can't starve if they eat all the micro fauna in the sand also try to get it to eat frozen asap

Thanks Psiber. He was eating frozen before I got him and I fed as soon as I put him in
