A nem nuked my tank a few weeks ago (lost my 2 designer clowns, lemonpeel angel, and 1 of my skunk cleaner shrimp)... I've been hesitant to add any new livestock, and am honestly still pretty disappointed I didn't remove the anemone before it died, and saved the fish. Finally decided to get the sole survivor (other cleaner shrimp) a new buddy, and try one new fish. Picked up a fire shrimp and a bicolor blenny - I'm pleasantly surprised how much personality the blenny has! He's made the barnacles his home and peeks at us from the rocks. I love interesting marine fish/inverts - my skunk cleaner has become my buddy and hops on my hand and starts cleaning it anytime I have to reach into the tank, lol. What is your fish or invert with the most personality? Here's "Hopper":

Barnacle waiting for a blenny

What type of blenny are you looking to get? A couple barnacle blennies would be pretty cool in your tank. :) I really like my bicolor but he's hard to see sometimes since 3/4 of his body is so dark. Sweet RFA's by the way!

I have a tailspot blenny on order from Dr. Reef. Not sure when I'll get it. Just caught the gorilla crab, so maybe soon! The green RFA got relocated to my evo since it was so big in that 10g. Looking for a replacement, but this tank was specifically built for a blenny, RFAs and some inverts!

Glad to hear the personality is common in the family!

Just posted on my build thread about new fish with some serious character. The Flame Hawkfish is super inquisitive, my canary blenny has quirky sleeping habits, and my watchman goby and pistol shrimp are BFFs. One of my clowns is doing some serious "I am the boss" moves so 'she' should be getting bigger soon!

Love tailspots too. I love grumpy-faced fish also. I have a YWG and candycane pistol shrimp on order from Dr. Reef (hopefully will hear something soon, as it's been about 45 days). But yeah, every blenny I've seen, as well as most gobies, are super fun to watch.

Flame hawks are my all time favorite fish. :) I don't have one because I worry it may try to eat my shrimp... but I would love one some day! I literally almost picked up a canary blenny this weekend, but then saw the bicolor and had to get him. They're more hiders though and the canary blennies seem to swim in the open a lot, which is cool. I've been waiting on my YWG and pistol shrimp from Dr. Reef - can't wait.

Be cautious if you add any SPS - My second and third bicolor blenny chomped most of it. My first one was a model citizen - I have to try find a photo of it some point later today. My linear blenny also likes to chew SPS so I’ve decided to have coral I can’t have in my 4’ tank go in my nano (Hoping he won’t chew on coral like acans and micros).

The vast majority of my fish have unique personalities. The flame hawkfish loves to just pop up out of the blue, the sixline and melanarus are always on patrol, the gramma and dottyback are always spelunking, all the angels are constantly exploring, the marine betta likes to lurk out of sight, the chromis and anthias school, the damsels herd them and the parrotfish rules the undersea kingdom.

Thanks for the tip! Don't think my light is probably good enough for most SPS so don't plan on any til I upgrade, but that's good to know for sure!

Any update on your dr. reef order¿ I’ve ended up on that website multiple times and I’m debating having them source a pink streaked wrasse or Pygmy Coral Croucher as I wait for my nano to become for established.

More established* ... I even called multiple times out of curiosity (to find out how the whole process would go down since I’m a bit far from NY) and have never had them pick up the phone sorry for the 2 part message lol.

I loved my bicolor blenny. But keep an eye on your encrusters, especially leptoseris and favites/goniastrea. Bicolors like to...sample

No word yet... but I did get an email that my fish had been stocked on 2/13 (ordered a quarantined YWG/pistol shrimp). It says allow 30-45 days, so I'm trying to be patient. I haven't reached out yet. He says phone calls are better but from your experience I don't know about that! I guess next step is I'm supposed to receive a request for payment a few days before it is going to ship. Fingers crossed that's soon! I've heard good things about Dr. Reef, so if you don't mind a wait, I think it's worth it. I would assume if you're looking for stuff he'll need to find, but don't request full quarantine, it may be a shorter wait. Depending on how long it takes him to source the particular fish, availability, etc.

I wish you the best of luck with the YWG/Pistol Shrimp (very good choice btw) when they arrive¡ “...my fish had been stocked...” can you explain that to me¿ I read the info/inquiry page of theirs but you have me confused since you said your gonna receive a payment request. I will seriously consider acquiring most of my stocking list from there but I sent an email ~3 months ago because I was wondering if he could source me either a Pederson’s cleaner shrimp or a white spot anemone shrimp.... no response and I can’t get anyone on the phone. I read the orders had stopped for a week because of complications in January, so I’m curious to see their current status through reviews. Thanks for replying have a great rest of the day¡

Thanks! So it was interesting - I thought it said YWG were usually already in stock and all inverts (other than special orders), so I didn't expect it to be so long. But apparently he didn't have that fish in stock when I ordered. I just assumed it was, until I got the email in Feb saying "your livestock has been acquired. Allow 30 to 45 days for quarantine". I got an email when I ordered with the bill, but said payment will not be requested until close to shipment day. Interesting process, but I don't mind - I have a quarantine tank but just don't feel comfortable enough to do it on my own yet, so I plan to only purchase pre-quarantined stock for now. And he is widely regarded as a great source. :)
I'm guessing he's very busy, because it's surprising to me that the communication has been so difficult. Maybe I'll try calling this week to check on my order. I'll let you know if I get through!

I wonder if my blenny would like a barnacle?!
I think it'd love it! I got mine on Amazon - "real purple barnacles". They came very well packaged and no breaks considering how fragile the edges are. My blenny spends most of his day poking his face out of the different barnacles, then chillin' on the rocks, then back in the barnacles, lol. You just have to blow them out with a turkey baster about once a week or detritus can build up in them. He keeps them cleaner swishing around in them though! :) I would like a midas too, but not sure the two would get along in my size tank.
