New formulae for comp 123+

Going to revive an old thread here. I've been using the AF Component Bundle for several years now on a small AIO. It was convenient using the pre-made component bundle since my consumption was pretty modest. Within the last year growth has exploded, and my small AIO is now packed and sucking down solution like crazy! So, time to start being more economical and mixing my own. Quick question, the only difference in the new formula is that you take the magnesium away from Component 1+ and add it to 3+? Same exact amount, or does it change at all? Thanks for taking the time to break this down so well!
Yes exactly. Mg is now in solution 3 instead 1 everything else remain same.

How big is your tank and what is you consumption after a year? Just starting myself and curious to see.

Here is the recipe that was posted recently...

Tank is 35 gallons. I’m dosing between 4.0-4.5 mL of each solution 24 times a day. So about 100 mL per day. My tank finally hit that mark of maturity and exploded in growth.

I believe I recall reading that if following the videos instructions it will be more concentrated than the premixed solutions. So if I follow AF’s recipe I’m going to get a more concentrated solution and need to dial back the dosing?

KH Buffer is fully saturated that's why it can't be more concentrated.
You can prepare more concentrated solutions with Calcium or Magnesium.
Component 1+2+3+ are dedicated to equal dosage that's why We recommend to dissolve powders using instruction:

Where can I buy component strong K?? I can get A, B, C, in 150 and 2 liters but can’t get strong K with out buying the component pack?

Well here’s the thing. The ABC that your talking about is designed to be used with a calcium reactor. You want to keep everything the same concentration when mixing your own components 1,2,3. When mixing your own components 1,2,3 you’re supposed to use the components strong which are a more concentrated liquid. So what you need to buy is the components strong kit. This comes with all of the components strong you need and then you mix up your batch according to the directions above. The kit comes with component A strong , B Strong, C strong and K strong. This is the proper way to do it and at the right concentration level. Hope this helps.

Happy reefing! :)

Since I already bought some is there anyway to use it? I will buy the components also (wish you had bigger ml) but can I use this also?

Not that I’m aware of unfortunately. I suppose you could use it but you don’t want to overdose it .

You see if you make up a batch of components 1,2,3 using the component strong ABC and K then you wouldn’t want to dose more of the ones you did buy. This would cause an over dose of trace elements.

Beautiful tank shot what lighting are you also using?

For the purpose of freeing up a slot for my dosing pump. I'm wondering if I could mix the Ingredients of component 1 and 3 in just one container thereby making a 2 part solution instead of 3. Any adverse effects on it?

This is not advised by Aquaforest. If it were ok then they would do it too. It would save them on shipping extra containers. We all wish it were that simple but unfortunately it is not . :)

In a separate thread there is a post by Aquaforest stating you can mix components 1 and 3. See one of the last posts in the thread below.

Its good to hear from Aquaforest that component 1 and 3 can be mix. Thank you for the link Tastee. :)

So I'm just about to make a liter of 1&3 and combine them. Will I need to double the dosage for that mix?

First of all you should know your daily concumption of Ca, KH and Mg.
Remember to dose Ca, Kh, Mg and Reef Mineral Salt in equal proportions.

I understand that. But let's say that I use them separately. And dose 10ml a day of each. If I then combined part 1 & 3 do I dose 20 ml of the combo and 10 of part 2?
