Keep in mind that with power outages, keeping temperatures constant and water oxygenated are the most important things; usually a small pump and a small heater take minimal power to keep a tank going during short power outages, but as others mentioned, for longer or more frequent events, a generator is a must, otherwise, APC makes good battery backups for short outages for small pumps/heaters.

BRSTV does a weekly video discussing very reef topics/questions from users. The latest one is almost strictly related to power issues. They had a GFCI outlet trip over the weekend and lost several thousand dollars worth of fish - OUCH! They discuss what they should've done and ways to help minimize losses due to power outages. Look for it in YouTube.

Welcome to R2R and look forward to a build thread of your tank. Keep asking great questions!

I live in a very rural area. Power can be out for days. Have a small portable generator. But was always concerned about what would happen if I was out of town for a few days when an extended outage occurred. Not to mention beside the tank, theres my freezer, refrigerator to add into the mix. So much work into our tank, QTing all the fish, inverts, corals, etc. So we finally got an whole house generator. Runs off of propane. Peace of mind. ;)

Hello & welcome to R2R Your finned friends will be fine at least 8 hrs but that depends on tank size & number of critters.
By the way Welcome to Florida . I'm north of St Augustine on the north east coast .

I had power out for 11 hours once and no issues.

My area isn't known for efficient utilities when it comes to things like this, so we have a little gas generator for such occasions. I'd love to have a nice, whole home generator at some point in time, though.

Welcome!
