NEW IceCap GYRE flow 2k pump review

Here’s my review, they suck.
Bought the new version that runs on a WiFi controller and now is $100 more than the older model. Get it home try to set it up and guess what folks you have to have a 2.4GHz internet speed. I of course have a 5GHZ internet speed in my house and would have to a get slower internet to run this pump. This is a brand new model of pump from CoralVue, why the heck would they not make it compatable with current household internet speeds? I took a gamble buying a CoralView product, their old light fixtures used to catch on fire, my gamble did not pay off. Just frustrated I don’t want to get slower internet for everything in my house including my other controller for one crappy made pump.

Also went back to the major online site I bought it from and a couple others, it does not state what internet speeds it’s compatable with.

Most 5ghz wifi routers also support 2.4ghz as well. Most iot devices still use 2.4ghz. You should be able to turn on a 2.4ghz network alongside your 5ghz one.

Unless 2.4g is disabled , it should be available as most routers have dual bands.

Yeah I tried to configure, but I can get individual devices to run 2.4 g on my router. But this is insane I have all this equipment that is much older using 5g, with no issues and this product brand new model is not compatible what the heck? I mean stuff in this hobby my wife jokes all the time is overtly complicated for no reason? Do you not get my frustration for a $200 pump, why should I have to spend hours trying set it up and then reconfigure my internet household speed to suit something that’s is supposed to be brand new technology?

I agree they should at least put the 5g chip on there as the cost is trivial nowadays or put the extra charge on the cost of the unit.

To be fair even the leading manufacturers like Radions and AI does not have 5ghz

At the very least In items descripition online from the retailers, let the purchaser know it’s not compatable with 5g. If I would have known I would not have bought it.

This is a bit off topic but since you were talking about networks. I have a PSA. Dont run your IOT, smartTvs and the like on the same network as your computers. You should have 2 networks in your house. External and internal. The external is what comes into your house from your provider. This is the network you run all your smart devices. Then you should have another router (internal) connected to your external router and this network you keep your all your computers and such. The security testing and validation on these smart devices is poor. Just like the ring doorbells all got hacked a few weeks ago many of these devices are easily 'monitored'. You never want a hacker or rouge employee to be able to take control of one of these devices and then leverage it to get to your computers and personal info. This is not fool proof but it does make it harder. On your internal network you should be able use best practices to lock it down. Such as defining which devices can access the internal network. This will also help the speed of your internal wireless as you wont be competing with your devices for wireless throughput. They will be segregated.

Buy a 2.4ghz router on amazon for like $20. If you ever plan on getting anything else that is wifi controlled odds are you are going to need it for that too.

No need. Most, if not all, do both. Its OP's lack of knowledge rather than the icecap that is the issue at the moment.

I have 15 WiFi controllable device in the house, and none require me to have 2.4g WiFi they are all compatible with 5g.

Your missing the point, why do I need to try to reconfigure my WiFi for a brand new product that should be compatable with the average individual WiFi. I’ll admit I am not too savvy tech wise, but come on, I should not have to spend hours just to run a basic $200 pump.

I’m not missing the point, this is my review and I believe you should not have to go through all of this to run a cheap pump. Just my opinion and that’s it, I will return the pump. I respect you are a little more tech savvy than me lol and unfortunately I can’t change speeds to run this pump.

But, to be honest, this is not a review. You can’t review something you can’t run. It doesn’t fit your application and your home network. That is on you not the manufacturer. Now I do understand that if that was advertised in the description you wouldn’t have purchased it. That should be the end of it, you informed the community and you are going to return it. But to say it sucks is inaccurate and baseless. Your situation sucks, not the product.
