NEW Kessil Light - 10 Years?!?!

I've only ever used the spectral controller with my lights and I don't mind it at all, only ever seen videos on the AP700 app. What issues have you had with the software/app? I know when it first came out it was only compatible on certain devices but I'm not sure if they have released more versions.
It's a bit different for everyone, some people only had a few issues, some people today seem to have no issues. That could be the result of the early units having an IC or component swap versus what's out there now, but who knows. There are still some I'd say major bugs like colour shifting deviating from the profile in use. That's along side outstanding issues like sync loss, power loss resetting the unit, tying profile backup to social media accounts, iOS version upgrade latency between generations. The software itself just feels a lot clunkier / Frankenstein than it should for a fixture priced against a XR30 Pro, and for me the most important - no external controller support.

I mean today the fixture is leagues better than it was at release, so a lot of this is sort of having lived through the three year ownership. There were major crashing bugs, profile resetting and other things that took 15-16 months post-retail release to be fixed with the first firmware update. I haven't seen any official confirmation, but for a company the size of Di-Con even if Kessil is a subsidiary, the software quality is low.

Hard to not turn the explanation into a rant, but I'm hoping the rest of the industry is going to force them to have to get with the times software wise.

I was hoping for a smaller AP700 alike, maybe more clusters. .I hope the leds are a big change in the game because better cooling isnt.

Ive always been a Kessil fan, own some A160’s and love the light they produce. When the AP700came out a few years ago I though this company would dominate the industry with innovation.

The AP700 optics hardware is VERY good, visually it's a slightly better overall spectrum than the 360's. Love the profile, optics, heat dissipation, everything about that unit except the control software.

Was hoping for a panel light to mimic T5's. Oh well. Guess I'll wait another ten years...

@sbreefco is coming out with a “T5 Killer” that’s a newly designed T5-esque LED panel, with significantly higher power than the old LED swap-out tubes for T5 fixtures.

But, I do love Kessil lights...

Literally had a a360 in my bulk reef supply shopping cart , waiting on payday to pull the trigger.
Scrolling through emails i see 360x spotlight.. .....delete from cart ....waiting !
I think there will be other annuncements this year, new lights will hit the market. I would def wait

Took 10 years to redesign a can and add different colored diodes...Hope there is more to it than that..
Maybe they will include PAR charts and spectrum. composition.

Asking too much? ;)

I’d say the testing by BRS that revealed excellent performance and the thousands of happy corals in thousands of Kessil lit tanks are a testament to their quality.

But, more information from them would be ideal... lol Before BRS tested them I was definitely skeptical. They should provide more detailed info, a company like dicon fiber optics certainly has mountains of data on their products.

The marketing is one point. Release just enough information to make everyone wonder. Give the rest of the information at macna! At least that’s what I am hoping for!

Looks considerably larger than the 360 can but tough to tell from the images. Wouldnt trade my Kessils for any other LED.

As for the comment regard panel type LEDs from Kessil, why would you ever expect that from Kessil?

I'm looking forward to seeing their booth at Macna. I'll try to get some video of any new lights they've got over tanks.

Do Radions still trump Kessils? Theyre sometimes cheaper.... wonder if its worth just switching to Kessils

Kessil lights are a lot more like a spotlight, so they do tend to shadow more than something like a radion will. Great lights with that in mind though!

This should help:

The Kessil A360X is a very exciting brand new update to the venerable A360 line of LED spotlights. The A360 has seen minor updates with the bump from the A350 to the A360, and later on to the A360E, but the new X series of the Kessil A360X is a complete redesign of the entire spotlight.

With MACNA just around the corner next weekend, we presume that we’ll be getting plenty of one on one time with the new Kessil A360X but for now this teaser video is all we’ve got to go on. The air intake grill is certainly quite different looking from the pattern we’re familiar with in the A360 so it does appear that the Kessil A360X will have a redesigned body.

We expect the new Kessil A360X to be both smaller and brighter than the current A360WE spotlights, but as far as any other features we can only hope to be seeing some kind of wireless functionality. Kessil has all but dominated the high end LED spotlight category with their 150/160 and 350/360 models so we have very high expectations of what the brand new Kessil A360X will be bringing to the table.

My guess is no fan, passive cooling, with all those vents. Less to go wrong. There's a least one knob, probably two. They more than likely updated the spectrum and diodes to the latest and greatest. Shadowing still an issue.....
