I got an lineatus wrasse two days ago and put him in my established 75g QT. He is still hiding between the rocks, but have come out very cautiously to eat a little a few times. He doesn't seem to have any weird marks on his body and fins. Just want to reconfirm that this is normal and want to understand how long it could take for him to come out to swim freely. Thanks.

He is the only fish in there. How many days would be abnormal?

In that case, it's very normal. In the wild no fish around is an indicator of a predator or other danger nearby.

Yep this. This is what you're dealing with.

I tend to throw at least two fish in together, when I QT. Maybe get something else or a cleaner wrasse. They are very active.

Cleaner wrasse, yeah, that's a good idea. Will need to find one that eats regular food tho. Thanks.

Idk if it's the same but I got a wrasse recently too. Probably hid 3-4 days but I wasn't counting. I'd see him when I'd open the door then instantly he'd shoot behind a rock. Now he swims by the glass when I walk in a week later.

Believe it or not, most of them do eat, at least the ones Ive seen.

I agree. Based on what I have seen over the years, things have been improving with cleaner wrasses. I can remember they were nearly impossible to feed about a decade ago but they somehow are now showing up at LFS with the willingness to eat prepared food.

Hi sc50964,
Maybe he is getting used to the new area :) ...How is he now?

Good news is that he is now feeling good enough to come out and eat more aggressively when food is in the water column. But he still would go back to his hiding ground shortly after eating a good meal or if we get too close to the tank. I will have one more fish coming in this Friday so I hope all is gonna be good before then.

My lineatus is one of the boldest wrasses I've ever seen. He eats from my hand. Any time I put my hand in the tank he comes right up and will question if my hand/arm is food or not. He'll give the occasional peck here and there. Definitely never shy's away and doesn't spook easily. He's roughly 5in and holds his own with the other larger fish.

What other large fish do you have? How big is your system?

120gal. 48x24x24. The larger of the fish is Tinkeri Butterfly 5-6in ,Juvi Emperor Angel 5in (Soon to be moved to a larger tank). Regal Angel 5in, purple tang 5in, Pintail Wrasse 5in, Midas blenny 5in. Obviously they're not huge but many different shapes and sizes. I also have a potters angel 3in, 6 line wrasse 2.5in and a pair of Black snowflake clowns 3in.

I will just have a 5 to 6" male swallowtail angel in the QT with him. Contemplating to put in another 5 to 6" male Lamarck angel but everything I've read is telling me not to.
