I wonder if it’s a macro algae.

Those green stalks are a type of algae. I wish I had links to the posts, but I recall several folks describing this algae as very invasive. Something you may want to research before adding the rock to your tank.

Awesome. I’m looking to get an urchin anyway. what species do you recommend and how mature does the tank need to be. Sad it’s invasive, it’s quite beautiful!

It is a demon from hell , the more you remove the faster it grows, I couldn’t win. I have a tuxedo urchin that is great, it eats coralline ( calcified algae) so it should work. I didn’t have the info back then to get an ID to find something to take it out even though I sent the pic to 2 marine biologist and many LFS. I wish you luck, reach out if you have any questions about it down the road.

You can add an urchin now but down the road when it has cleaned all the surfaces you may need to supplement with nori or algae wafers. I prefer the wafers.

Wouldn’t recommend any cuc specifically for this…
Manual removal. If you can see it, you’re slacking.

Just bought it, any way I can remove the bad hitchhikers (aiptasia, weird algae) and keep the feather dusters?)

Thank you. Do I just rip them out and hope they don’t grow back? I’m gonna do some manual removal of bad stuff tomorrow.

Always wear gloves with working in tanks or with removing unwanted pests from live rocks .
