If you are away from the house regularly for any period of time, an apex controller will set your mind at ease.
I got two blink indoor security cams from best buy for 70, so that I can check water levels and visually inspect the tank when gone.
R2R and BRS TV are the most uptodate sources. Though the books listed above are wonderful, they don’t reflect the most modern practices.

welcome! I was watching an add last night for a company that makes a 360 degree submersible camera for aquariums. The price shocked me though so I forget the name.. will edit this if I refind it

Welcome! BRS has tons of youtube videos that cover pretty much everything from basics to in depth dives into specific topics with testing. Start with the basics and learn how to keep basic parameters stable first hand before you start diving into the more specific topics. Videos and books can only teach so much hands on is the only way to truly understand. The best thing about this hobby is you never stop learning.

Hi there! Welcome to R2R! I’m just getting started myself, but I already have a couple quick observations I’d like to share:
BRStv is terrific. There’s TONS of content, but the more the better. Even their “best of” episodes can be very helpful getting your head around all the gear out there.
The crux of this hobby (I find) is that there’s no real “bible” because every tank is different, every reef keeper is different, different resources, equipment... you get the idea. Fascinatingly, while there’s a lot of knowledge about what or how something works, we’re often lacking data on WHY it works. Our best bet is just trying to emulate someone’s path to success, but there’s no 1-2-3. Guess I’m saying that everyone is learning as they go, and that’s kind of the fun part!
On a practical level, they say you should start bigger and I’m already feeling that. I have a 20 gallon and it feels small. Kicking myself for not trying a little bigger. And your initial investment doesn’t really scale much. Unless you’re talking 10G versus 50G, you’re still buying a lot of the same equipment, and test kits don’t care what size tank you have.
