I just received this Naso from Live Aquaria. I always QT my fish but didnt with this one. I needed to add him and my Purple Tang (from QT) together because I have an established large Powder Brown. He is swimming well and eating and behaving normally. Is this Ich?

How long has it been since you added it?

Yes and that may not be all, that fish does not look good at all. I hope you've got a hospital tank. You may need it soon. Are you familiar with how to treat under copper?

If not, we can get you some links but you are running against time right now.

A friend local to me (West Coast) Just received an order of four nasos from LA Last week. Yours likely came from the same holding tanks so close together.

They arrived Completely covered in velvet despite salinity of 1.020. Looked like the fish had been dried off and powdered with confection sugar. They were freshwater dipped then immediately into a quarantine tank. unfortunately they were all dead within 36 hours.

The powder brown is super susceptible to this. I don't think power feeding is an option at this point. I would advise pulling everyone from the tank following it and treating all of the fish under current copper protocols.

Oh yeah, for sure. It's probably the fastest fish in your tank. When it can breath. How big is the tank?? If you got a few rubbermaids or trash cans around, you can drain as much of the water as possible. You might as well pull all the fish.

I got him out finally and in QT. What is the likelyhood that he has spread it to my other fish already? If so, what would be the best aproach for my display tank? I have Zoas

In my system , they are all coming out immediately. I can't put a number on it. How many hours was it in there?

You rolled the dice this morning by dumping and praying and that didn't work out very well. I wouldn't be trying to tempt faint and hope for a better result this time.

He is out and I'm treating him with Copper Power in my QT. What can I do in my DT to prevent it from getting on my other fish assuming it spread? He was in there for about 7 hours but I read that it stays on the host for about 3 days before spreading. Not sure I buy that theory...
Oh, and a little endorsement... THANKS LIVE AQUARIA! Took you two weeks to ship a medium/ large Naso Tang and you send me a 2.5 inch Juvie with ICH!

Good on you getting it out. Don't forget to add a bunch of aeration to the water. I run 3 sources in my qt

If your going to hope, may as well be buffering it's immune system with high quality foods and often. I hope you don't regret pulling all the fish, but I have a feeling you're going to.

This fish didn't get sick today. The parasites that were on your fish 3 days ago may have been releasing into your tank today.

@fishguy242 @F i s h y thought?

If you have a UV sterilizer, Now it would be a great time to flow test it and ensure it is working at the level for parasites per the manufacturer's website or instructions. Don't guess. Test it flowing into a bucket if needed. If you're choosing to keep the other fish in there, including the purple and powder, At least give them a chance with the UV. Feeding enriched foods often, nori availability multiple times a day. Give the fish a better chance. Keep an eye on their respiration. That can sometimes be the only indicator.

And this is why I came back into the livestock world.....but honestly, you need to qt your fish regardless.....or have us/or someone do it for you before you put it into your main system. It doesn't have to be complicated....I encourage you to set up a qt system....air sponge filter, heater, meds.....patience. So many good sources out there/here to learn what to do. You got this....and it can be fun too!
