I have this large (5”-6”) Naso tang and he isn’t eating the foods I’m offering.

Here’s what I tried:
Blackworms
Spirulina mysis.

I noticed it’s mouth is pretty big compared to both foods.

I do have LRS which is much meatier. I’m going to give that a shot.

It’s been at LFS for a few weeks (I’ve been watching it) however, I forgot to ask them to feed it.

Lots of brands out there you will need a clip also.

He didn’t eat the LRS.

I haven’t tried nori.

This naso does have his lateral line showing which means he’s underweight.

I’m going to attempt nori next.

Isn’t your tank fallow right now?
Who said my Naso was in my display tank? He’s in my QT tank.

Update: Naso didn’t accept the nori.

I want to say something: this Naso was eating well the first day home. I noticed his lips are flaking/peeling in the current. His lips are orange, but the inter lip inside his mouth is like a gray color and looks like it’s peeling. He hasn’t been eating ever since I noticed that.

How many other tangs do you have in that qt?

I have seen several posts about Tangs getting a mouth infection. Sometimes it is when the LFS or some place nets them and their teeth/mouth get caught on it and injured. Some heal on their own just fine and others sometimes get a nasty infection.

Yes. My first reaction was that the naso’s teeth were growing from its lips.

I don’t know what to do. I have kanaplex which is a broad spectrum antibiotic. Should that be dosed?

For tangs, the secret sauces are as follows:

1) Live brine
2) Red nori
---- rubberband it to a rock for extra points as it will mimic natural grazing -- in QT don't leave it long as it will foul water somewhat fast if left uneaten -- but keep trying leave in for 4-5 hours per day and switch it out daily
3) live blackworms
4) formula 2 flakes
5) pellets

1-3 are relatively close --- 4-5 often surprise me with tangs if they won't eat frozen sometimes they eat this -- no idea why. Naso especially. But some Naso don't eat when "fresh". Especially smaller ones. Keep trying!

Oh I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you had lost all your other fish. :(
Thank you. But don’t worry! I didn’t lose them all! I actually have 11 fish all in QT right now (not in the same QT tank).

This fish WAS eating until it’s mouth starting peeling off. :(

Kanaplex and Furan 2 together is what was used here. Some healed on their own. I suppose it depends how bad it is.

Thank you. It doesn’t look that bad. It’s very mild. I was only concerned because he wasn’t eating.

I’m going to give it 1-2 days. It’s most important for me to see him eating. If he’s not eating it’s bad news for him.

I will update if anything new happens.

Woah the tang legend himself! It’s nice to see your still around FordFamily
I would have only one tang in my 120 if it wasn’t for his tips n tricks.
