New & need help

xenia not ideal for a new tank as they require a little seeded/dirty water. Moderate light and water flow is best. As the tank matures and seeds itself, you will see them perk up

Welcome.
I think sometimes when we are new, we jump on every little thing and worry so much. Sometimes we need to step back and let the tank adjust. I get the phosphate was high. But see if you can find out the source first before trying to bring it down super fast.
I hope your corals recover. Good luck and keep active on here. It will help.

Yes it is the first time I’ve removed anything. I just took out the easy removable things (the bags of white blocks, carbon etc) and rinsed it all out as it looked a bit dirty. I’ve not removed anything electrical (assuming you can). In the space of those couple of days I cleaned the removable items did a water change and put the hair algae remover in.

What did you rinse them in? If you used tap water, you can damage the good bacteria they are there to house. Those are your biological filters and should be handled carefully. Blow off, rinse in saltwater. Carbon is fine to replace as needed though. Just make sure to run water through the carbon prior to putting it in the tank (if in reactor, rinse bag if that method is what you use).

It was tap water that I used to rinse them. I had picked of the green hair algae and some of it went through the filters at the back so thought it was a good idea to clean them this way. Obviously not.

I rinsed it all in tap water. I have a phosphate reading of 2 so wanted to try and reduce this. After googling the problem I found somewhere saying to use the Rx which would also remove the green hair algae but I think that has nothing to do with phosphate reduction does it?
Manually pulling and removing the hair algae will also remove some nutrients with it .
nitrates and phosphates are absorbed by it
