New from Neptune - Apex EL
New from Neptune Systems. The Apex EL. EL (Entry Level). A lower cost option to the Apex WFI often referred to as gold. This system will give you access to the Apex world for under $500 bucks. You get everything you need to get started with all the great expandablility options Neptune Systems has to offer.

The ApexEL makes keeping your aquarium easier while also monitoring key parameters such as temperature, pH, and the health of your connected equipment, for under $500*

APEXel – THE ENTRY LEVEL APEX

  • Lower cost version of its big-brother Apex
  • Prevents catastrophes by monitoring temperature and pH in your aquarium, takes corrective actions for you, and alerts you via your smart phone when things go off track.
  • Monitors your equipment – ensuring it is operating correctly at all times – and lets you know when it’s not.
  • iPhone, iPad, or Android app controlled. Also works on PC or Mac using any common web browser.
  • Tracks your manual test results, maintenance, livestock purchases, and tank observations and helps you correlate issues in your aquarium to the things that are happening inside.
  • Manages the full operation of equipment (lights, pumps, filters, ATO, etc.) on your tank with simple setup “Tasks” and an easy to use app.
  • Takes the place of many costly and cumbersome discrete components such as light timers, heater controllers, pump controllers, etc.
  • Expandable – Add more monitoring and control features as well as specialized Apex-ecosystem hardware as your needs require
  • Gives you the peace of mind to know how your aquarium is doing, instantly, from anywhere in the world.
The ApexEL is a self-contained monitoring platform built for reliability – for when things go wrong – It’s not just a toy to play with when everything is A-OK.

After reading the Reefkeeper thread, this makes sense. $499.95 = "entry level"? ;Greedy

This is probably the end if the Apex classic and Jr. and it makes sense. Why continue to manufacture 2 different cases when they could just remove some connections and give it a new name.

I agree. For what is use my full unit for, this would have suited me better at $300 less

I'm not sure that "entry level" means what they think it means.

Apex Jr = <$250
Apex "entry level" = <$500

Gotta love marketing. :D
Lite is in the middle. It's. . . . Jr, lite then classic

so for the newbie, how is this different from the Apex classic? Or is it?
More capabilty, built in Wi-Fi and better plug in module and expandability

So the Apex Classic base package is similar to this, but here's a list of differences..

ApexEL has, but Classic doesn't have..
- built-in WIFI
- 1Link ports
- EB832 with per-socket power consumption monitoring (vs EB8 on Classic)

Classic has, but ApexEL doesn't have..
- onboard orp port
- onboard variable speed/dimming ports
- display

I'm not sure if this new unit will have Triton and IoaT support though.

Great clarification. Yes- trident support

Exactly.. what does that make the JR.?

It is closer to the lite which didn't last too long.
The Jr is 4 outlet basically for temp. And lights

I've often wondered why they didn't discontinue the classic already - though it's possible they haven't been made in a while and just running out the inventory. JR still seems 'safe' at its price point.

I would have purchase the "EL" version as well if it were available when I upgraded from the classic. Yeah, having an idea of ORP and salinity is fine, but both of those probes have their own set of issues. Must not be moving too "full" units and need a boost (cannot blame them for than though). Also maybe the Trident is coming soon so they want to have a lower cost option for people wanting the EB832 as well (not just the head unit) and maybe the Trident will be using 1Link. Either way, I still won't be getting the Trident.
