New ORA Coral: Pink Polyp Capricornis

It's always funny to see these ORA posts. ORA's business model isn't to bring in "new" frags to the hobby. They sell frags that have proven to be hardy, hold color well and grow fast enough to sell hundreds or thousands of each and aren't finicky like many of the "new" gimmicky frags that come out at $300 for a 1/2inch and then the price plummets after 3 months of being "new". ORA knows what they are doing....that's why they have been around for many years longer then the vendors who live and die off of the 2 tiny frags of hot eye candy they put out once a month.

I agree with this also and what they do is wonderful for the hobby... but ORA HAS had releases that are pretty well known for doing poorly in captivity.. Such as "Dustins deepwater". I think every one lost that piece, including (i assume) ORA.

With that being said, I think ORA should always be making an effort to grow new and exciting coral to add to their aquaculture program.

pffft. speak for yourself bro, the dustins is as hardy as they come hahahaha

Hi all, new to the discussion here but not to montis! Actually the chili pepper is massive encrusting and the seasons greeting is a thin plating monti. I recently got some big chunks of what is supposed to be seasons greeting but the polyps are more orange in coloration and it looks like it grows like the Idaho grape or leng sy, thick plating but with spires in the center. I'll have to post some pictures.

I think it's funny that Ora keeps releasing "new" corals lately, like idaho grape which practically everyone has. Why can't they go out on a limb and start growing Aussie rainbow milles or something? Real innovative company.

There's no such thing as "new" corals. They've all been in the ocean for hundreds/thousands of years. They don't sell rainbow milli's because they don't hold their color well and they would look different in everyone's tank. Corals that are their "new" releases have probably been in their facility being propagated for 5 years before they ever release the first frag...otherwise they wouldn't have enough frags of it go around for ever.

This goes for some of their current pieces as well(joes, chips especially , roscoes, even red planet, ha i have better luck with dustins than i do with redplanet) . Theres about 6 or more of us locally that have most of the same ORA pieces in Sps dominate tanks and its crazy to see how different each one is in the different systems.

Not all that exciting for a "new release" ORA use to have the best of the best when it came to aquaculture. They need to release some nice coral to get them back on the map.
