Hello everyone! I am from the DFW area of Texas and I have been bitten by the bug it seems. I have been lurking on the forums for a month or so now, and I decided it was time to join and start actually posting.

I came across an amazing deal on a large, oddly-sized tank, and I just couldn't pass it up. The tank is 48"x48"x18" and comes in around 175 gallons. It has an overflow in the center/back of the tank that looks to be in ok condition with a few teeth broken off. It also came with and engineered steel stand.

The tank is in pretty good condition, the trim needs a little tlc, and the stand badly needs a sanding and paint job, but over all I am ecstatic with tank.

I have been keeping freshwater fish for about a year now, but I can't see doing anything other than a reef tank with this monster.

I will post a build thread in the next few days, and I can't wait to see what advice I can get on upgrades and starting equipment.

Welcome to R2R and thanks for signing up. That thing has wonderful potential and I'm looking forward to watching it come together. Congrats on the find.

welcome to R2R! Can't wait to see progress on that beauty! I love those dimensions; square with a shallow area of water. Should be incredibly fun to plan! With 48" in both directions, you could plan a mini grass shoal into a drop off if you wanted. Different corals, different needs, all the same "ocean"! Congrats on finding that tank Pole! if you should come across a similar one, let me know and I'll come get it.

Nice find! Welcome to R2R!
I am also in dfw, excellent area for reefing with an active community.

Welcome to R2R!!

Great dimensions! Oh the possibilities lol. Going to make an awesome tank. Any idea on the manufacture?

Sadly when I showed up to pick up the tank, only the guy's groundskeeper was there. It was being stored in a large building behind his house dedicated to breeding Koi. He was in the process of tearing out all his stock tanks. The groundskeeper didn't really have any info on the tank. I found a few places online that will build a tank this size, but couldn't find any with the exact specs.

How thick is the glass on it?

Nice find! Those are some great dimensions for a reef tank. It would be really awesome to set it up with a 360 degree walk around!
