New Reefer!

I'm not sure about fish, i really want to be careful about the bio load. I want to take it easy and learn before I go crazy lol but I'm thinking some LPS, zoas and an anemone.

a fish or two would not be crazy by any means. What the fish poop out will help to feed some corals and thus result in not as frequent feedings. This holds true with Zoas espescially. I never feed mine and with two clown fish they are happy and growing. I would refrain from an anemone depending upon what corals you want to put in there. They can move like crazy trying to find a favorite spot and can demolish other corals in the process. So I would introduce one before any other corals and give it time to find its spot and then you should be fine but it will take some time. I wish you the best of luck and any questions please let us know!!

My loss is your gain! Planning is key and just by asking a few things I saved you a lot of hassle in the long run. Like I said any questions please ask. We are all here to help.

Hey guys,

Just a quick update. I added my cleaning crew and some other items I got for free from a friend. I have a starfish in the tank now, it spent a day or so roaming the sand. But now its spending most of its time on the rocks. Is this normal?

The pic is kinda hard to see but the star fish is on its side in between the rocks.

The tank in my avatar is a 44g and because of the shape I ended up putting an led fixture on it. It grows corals quite well and I like being able to select the color I want. A small halide should work well as long as it doesn't push the temperature up too much.

Welcome to the hobby. Looks like a great start. Like everyone else has said, make a plan and try to stick to it, 33 gallons fills up pretty quickly with good care. Take it slow and have fun! BTW, the starfish is probably looking for food, they're constant grazers and in an unestablished tank there's not a lot for them to eat. You may want to provide a few bits of food for it.

Welcome my friend! Looking great... such a great start and approach... I'm sure you'll like it here...

I always thought the starfish is part of the clean up crew and will just eat anything lol...

I spot feed my serpent star sinking shrimp pellets, just a couple per week. I couldn't tell from the picture what kind of starfish you have? It is probably too early to add an algae grazing or sand sifting starfish to your tank.
