New tank stock list, tang specific question

Hi,

I just purchased a tank that turns out to be a bow front 180 gallon. The 4 fish that I am certain I want are 2 tangs, and a magnificent foxface.

I’ve been trying to google research to figure out which tangs can work together.

I have a purple now, in a smaller tank that must be moved over. So the question is which tangs will co-exist with a purple tang.

I have an S650 (170 USG) and have/have had the following together

Yellow
Kole
Regal
Sailfin
Freckle
Tomini
Naso
Purple

And a few more without any issues at all, but you may need to look at upgrading later as they grow or re homing them.

But I’ve also just taken a yellow tang back to the LFS that wanted to murder everyone else in a new tank, so it will depend in the individual

Agree with @ca1ore. If possible add both tangs at the same time. Adding one to an established one tang tank can be tough.

Absolutely. Different body style than a bristle tooth.

Kole tangs are great fish. I'd consider either using an acclimation box since purple tangs can be aggressive at times, or use a mirror. I had a Kole and yellow tang that didn't quite get along at first. Kole was first in. I taped a 4"x4" mirror on one side and it distracted the Kole for a few months to let the others settle in. After that, they were pretty good. this was in a RS Reefer 450, which is also 5' long, but much less depth and height than I am assuming you have.

Koles are too common. Might as well get the best top tang you can get that don't get too big. I suggest the mighty beautiful Achilles!! ;Woot Of course as long as you quarantine it correctly.

I love the look of the Achilles for sure. But researching it it seems like a huge risk and likely have it die right away

That's solid advice.

Either the white tail or kole would work fine, and it may be possible to try both. The foxface would be a great addition to the group.

I would probably skip the Achilles, for reasons mentioned above. Maybe a convict tang as a replacement?

I'd go kole and blue out of that list. They'll hopefully work it out if you add them all at once.

If you're looking to impress the internets then yes. I am in the camp that common fish are typically hardy and easier to keep.

After seeing Achilles tangs in the wild while diving, they get way too big to be comfortable in anything less than several hundred gallons.

i wanted a naso too i have a 210 6ft long what is minimal size?
