New tank

Welcome. :-)

Really depends on how you set it up with regard to live rock or bacterial seeding products.

Once the cycle is complete and there is no detectable ammonia or nitrites per test kits. Typically 6-8 weeks, patience is the key, rushing it leads to waste of money, frustration, disease.

No live rock i diy my own rock and no bacterial seeding was told by a friend to cycle with some guppies let them die and wait till testing levels out tested ph is good ammonia high and nitrites high. Is this right

Welcome to r2r!

I recommend using a piece of raw shrimp to jump start the cycle as opposed to live fish. How did you make your own rock? If cement how Lon of a cure time did you allow?

Cure time about two weeks water chages every day and tested water till ph was normal and salt was gone. Raw shimp ? Like the ones you eat with cocktails

Salt gone? What do you mean? What kind of test kit did you get? I Started my cycles with some frozen Brine shrimp.

Diy dry rock : portland cement, crush oyster shells, and rock salt. Used a bucket of pool sand as a mold: once dry soak in water to melt salt and bleed. Ph and salt levels were through the roof but did water changes daily. Took about two weeks till ph dropped and no salt was detected.

How do i post a full pic. No RO water do you really need it back in the day we used tap water and it worked fine.

If you have the picture saved right beside the post reply is a Upload file, just click that and find the picture you need.

I would at least use a water conditioner. Everyones tap water varies as to how clean it is.

What do you have for filtration?

I'm new and doing a cycle too, and I was told NOT to do water changes until the cycle is done, or it just takes longer for it to happen. Can someone else verify this?

I Didn't do a water change out for the first month of my tanks but some people say you should idk really. What kind of filtration are you using?

Right now JUST a sock filter, but I have dead rock in there presumably slowly going live, and I have a protein skimmer, but I was told not to use it that first month of the cycle too
