Well we can already tell your smart... Cause you joined the best Reef Forum on the planet. Also it looks like your pretty handy. Really looking forward to new post on your build. So I say Welcome and Good Luck.

Thanks everyone, will try to put together a build post when i get it up and running.
Still need to build a manifold to run future reactors and my Coralife twister 12x UV and find and rig a pump and platform for my skimmer. Will be doing a DIY heater controller and ato so lots of fun work to go.

Hello all,new to the forum but have been lurking and reading for few months, also new to salt so been doing a lot of reading.
Currently setting up a 70gal tall with sump (converted 20 long). Tank will start FOWLR and go to mixed reef when I can afford the lighting. Aim is Triton based setup, sump has Fuge first measures out to 8gal and return pump should be about 1000-1200gph, 1400 with head but split into 3 returns 2 from a sqid so sure there is additional loss. Hope to test plumbing and aquascape in the next few days, i have about 100lbs of rock that i bleached and acid washed ,is was dry when i got it but had no history so to be safe i did the acid. Posting pics of were im at sofar, let me know what you think

Glad you joined us! Constructive input coming from a old salt, I would consider placing my skimmer in the first section of your sump and your ATO float switch in the return pump section.

This way the water level for your skimmer will stay consistent, even in a power outage. Keeps them from overflowing when the power comes back on.

Similar to my setup:

Anyway, keep us updated on your progress!

Welcome! Looks like you're off to a nice start. I'm not a sump expert by any means but if I may, It looks like the water level in your sump will be quite high from the pictures. Keep in mind any room you might need in case of power outage/back siphon. Maybe add a check valve? I agree with Flippers4pups...think about putting skimmer in front of refugium. My skimmer can be a little picky sometimes if my water level fluctuates, even with my ATO, so I moved it before my refugium. Much more stable. Trust me, I know the last thing you wan't to do is cut out those baffles and re-do it, but much easier now and not when it's full lol.

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking I will be ok on the water level, will do a few simulated power outage tests when I do my plumbing checks,I will have suction break holes on the return lines just under the display water level and drains are in a homemade overflow so planning sump will be high but not overflow. If I need to I can trim the glass dividers still in place, lol learned that on a fresh water sump I built few years back. I know traditional setup is skimmer then fuge but went with fuge first based on the Triton setup part of the reason level is so high was to get 10% to DT ratio and leave sump chamber 9in wide for marine pure block and to fit decent skimmer. Thanks for input, keep it coming
