Hi,

I am starting up a new tank, Aqua One 120 (I think, bought second hand). Trying to do the initial water cycle. How do I know when the water is ready for adding life to the tank? What tests do I need to do?

Thanks.

Welcome! Ammonia will spike, nitrite will spike, then they will both go away and nitrates will spike. That's when you can perform a water change and add fish
Agree.
And welcome to the best reefing forum in the world!

Welcome and bestest of luck to you!!
Read Kennyas' post, and Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate

Hope you were able to get some "cured" live rock from a trusted source and pay attention to advice on bringing light on slowly... and above all else, patience!

Welcome to Reef2Reef! Looks like you got some good advice already. Test and wait for ammonia to disappear. One you don't have nitrites and nitrates are showing you should be good to go.

Have you added any type of food source to help feed the nitrifying bacteria?
