Greetings!
FW hobby for years, finally spending the big bucks on a FOWLR to start, coral later.
40b drilled and painted black.
Marco rock and fiji pink sand
Reef Octopus Darios-2 DC Return
Reef Octopus Essence 130 Skimmer
Vortech MP10 Powerhead
Skimz Up22 Sump
About to start plumbing.
Still deciding on heaters and lights. Cycling a quarantine tank now.
Since the tank is so small and I will have little evaporation, I'm going with LFS saltwater and RODI at .89 a gallon.
Input and critique welcome and appreciated....

Welcome and consider getting the above mentioned RO/DI once you recover from the initial expenses.

I got back in after a break about five months ago and did the same thing initially. I have two kids and a budget. I only have two 10 gallon tanks so far and only lasted a month buying water and lugging it home.

Also, start a build thread if you haven’t already!

Welcome

Its all about finding the deals...here's my $500 worth of 180 tank/stand, cs9 skimmer and 200lbs rock

#1 advice RODI system

Welcome, Lance!!!
As others have already stated, get an RO/DI unit. 40 seems small but will evaporate a ton of water. Far more than you would think possible. This is far from an inexpensive hobby but there are many ways to save a buck. You really don't need the best of the best and the latest and greatest. Find a happy medium that will fit with your needs and wants and goes with your budget.

I hear you @Lance McMillan !I remember telling myself, “PSH I’d never spend $600+ on a stupid light!”

I just bought the Orphek Atlantik V4 Compact for my tank and then went to a swap last weekend. There goes $1400 on lights and some frags lol

I’m hooked though, so oh well lol

Welcome. I’m sure your going to be happy with your switch to SW.

Follow the RODI advice if the pocket book allows. If it were me I’d probably get the RODI before the light. You can buy a clip on led light from amazon for ten bucks until your ready to decide on what light fixture you want. Meantime you got an RODI and your not lugging buckets to and from your LFS.

Good luck and have fun!!!!
