new to the hobby

No I really can't say I am. I can research cycling the tank and chemistry. Right now I have live sand ocean sea salt the aquarium and hood. If possible I would like to have it set up and going by thanksgiving.

first look up the nitrogen cycle, basically its bacteria converting ammonia to nitrite to nitrate. If your impatient like myself go with live rock, if its of good quality it will smell like fresh seafood not decaying smell. For a newbie you should give real reef rock a try, you don't have to worry about any pests, and its man made so no damage to natural reefs, its cheaper if you get it off line.

Thank you it means a lot hearing that, and btw my last post meant to say if you have anyone questions not me lol

one last thing best advice i can give you is move slow nothing in this hobby happens fast and before making decisions research research research... got some spare time research! lol

Just take it slow. Do your research about cycling. Careful with live rock might become a disaster later one with pest and different algae. Find a local forum and you can usually find good deals on dry goods. Any pictures of what you currently have?!
