Interesting, just read another post about biopellets being linked to a lot of tank crashes.

I guess I've been fortunate, I started a Skimz 83 from day one. Just started it and left it alone until it needed cleaning or pellets added. Started off with 1/2 of recommended amount for my water volume and went up to 100% after 4 mths. I hope I stay fortunate
Don't get me wrong, I loved running the biopellets. Fed as much as I liked, never had detectable nitrates. If I had been at home when the skimmer pump went down, I could have turned off the pellet reactor and not have had a problem. I am just going to try it without. Heck, I might go back to running them if I have trouble keeping nitrate down once I get a larger fish population. But I will try to figure out how to better monitor and get help if needed when out of town.
