Nick's Waterbox 100.3

Love it man, the dens were a great idea, gives it more visual depth as well. What are ur plans for the bare bottom? Chalices, leptospirosis, cyphastreas?

keep posting, very well documentation so far. [emoji106]
Thanks for the compliments!

Honestly, I think I’m going to leave the bottom glass free of anything. I picked up the Waterbox mainly for the glass overflow because I don’t like coralline growing on any surface except for the main structures. I’ll be able to easily scrape and clean all glass surfaces in the tank. I’m most attracted to displays that are more sterile-looking; they typically appear to provide more visual emphasis on corals rather than on the structure as a whole.

I was able to get my stand leveled last night, and it was a nightmare. For living in a new-build at the cost of rent that we pay, our apartment floors are incredibly uneven to the point that it’s worrisome; we wonder what else was poorly constructed. The amount of leveling feet that is provided with the Waterbox stand was great, but it was also challenging to ensure that they were all touching the floor. I may have two more, in the middle, that I need to work on, which I’m not looking forward to because there is not an easy way to do that.

Anyway, I should have the tank onto the stand this weekend when my family comes to visit. My wife can’t grip the tank well enough to help me carry it from the garage; it’s a heavy tank.

I hear you on that man. my 6026 is still sitting in its box while I reinforce the floor and then try and level it out, like you in a new build, very frustrating.

I hope you have a few days set aside for leveling that thing! ;)

I decided to start leak-testing my sump today. While checking it out, I noticed that the silicone on the pane of glass that separates the return chamber and the ATO reservoir was not a full seam; I can get my nail under the edge of that pane of glass where it meets the pane that separates the skimmer chamber from the ATO reservoir. However, after having it filled for thirty minutes, I haven't seen any leaks. I will let it sit all day today and inspect it tomorrow. I will then fill up the rest of the sump tomorrow, after draining the ATO reservoir, and let the water sit for another day.

You can see in the photo below where the less-than-stellar silicone work was done. It lies between the two red arrows.

Below are three pictures that show the sump at different angles when the ATO reservoir is filled.

You should glance at one of my recent threads, which will give you a dang-good idea of how handy I am. You'll be able to judge for yourself by the first post.

TLDR; I have no idea what I am doing.

I've been an apartment-dweller for years, so I have not had many opportunities to perform home repairs or improvements. Also, I have never seen Die Hard or Star Wars, and I have only driven a vehicle with a manual transmission once in my life and hated it.

Ha ha ha

ha ha, you and I may be in the same boat, I try to be handy....it often doesn't work...while I've never seen Star Wars, I have seen Die Hard...and prefer a Manual transmission.

It’s funny that you ask; I’m a software developer. I build iOS apps, and I’m currently learning web development at work. I’ve always been in love with technology. Maybe that’s why my wife is not the biggest fan of my hobbies. I enjoy technology and reefkeeping; two incredibly expensive hobbies combined into one when you throw in controllers, dosers, monitors, and anything else that I can tinker with.

We have been in the planning stages for that for a couple of months now. I've been buying all of the equipment for my system that I will want for the next decade because I know that I won't be able to buy things as I want them when we have a baby. Ha ha

Why am I excited to have a box of filter socks when everyone else seems to be replacing them with filter rollers? Well, this is my first system with a sump, so I’m actually excited to start using them! :D

I'm going to user 2 filter cups and 2 socks. changing out filter socks, washing them...gets old very fast

Yes it does...
I ditched the filter socks 100% on my old redsea, was the best thing ever. couple filter cups, a bag of filter floss lasts for months and you just dump the cup when its dirty and replace the floss. sooo soo much easier.

What is the most challenging part of setting up the Waterbox stand? Well, that’s the twenty-four leveling feet. After a trip to three hardware stores, I was able to find pliers that are slim and long enough to reach the center feet. It only took two hours.

FYI, the 13” Crescent pliers were purchased at The Home Depot, and the 16” Pittsburgh pliers were purchased at Harbor Freight Tools, and they came with a 90° option. I ended up with both because the stand is close to the wall, and the other leveling feet were getting in the way of each tool at different angles. I’m hoping that the links to the tools with help others that are struggling to get all of the feet leveled. It was a PITA.
