Nitrate problem

You are confusing this poor guy why don't you listen to what has worked for many of us?

Mr fresh do u keep working on vodka dosing after ur nitrate get low ?

Yes once I hit that ideal spot u can feed the fish more corals will look good and skimming always looks dark.
Theres a lot to vodka dosing so dont just take a shot glass and pour it in. Read though that thread I know its long but theres a lot of info I put and a lot of info other put in as well.
I need to update it. But my tank looks the best it ever has...

Just bc its not simple doesnt mean it will confuse him. And vodka dosing has workesd for a lot of people.
Im glad I went vodka dosing instead of putting new carbon in ever week amd doing huge water changes hopeing my nits would drop.

To each there own and I hope this post did not come off hostel.
I just want people to know there are always options...

Theres more then one way to skin a cat. ( I think thats how the saying goes )

Dont get me wrong making sure u have a skimmer that works and having clean water do play a huge part And not excess feeding but, why not.
Even if I dont have a nitrate problem in a future tank I will still vodka dose, its like having a back up plan if u over feed or dont do a water change for over a month...I never put just the right amount of carbon in my tank I make sure I have more carbon then gallons rated for....
Just mu thoughts

Thats is what i am trying to get across that carbon dosing is easy and might be a great option for him.

O I must have miss read it, it seemed like u were trying to tell me I was confusing him

I am with you man on the carbon dosing. I tried vodka but changed over to Redsea nopox and i have had great results. That leaves the vodka for me. lol

Check out the original post and pictures. All there.. He gave that information.

Oops my bad!! Sorry :) Still with a nitrate reading of 80, ya think those Fire Fish would be swimming around? They look pretty healthy to me, corals too.

Fish tend to be more talarent to bad water then corals...

Mike 007 I looked at that but with how much vodka I use I thought I would burn though that stuff pretty fast...
But I do love there other products like the color up and the trace elements program, and the Red Sea test kits are by far the best ones out there

Thx mate again so let's do it better way to choose the method by vote
1-vodka dosing
2-carbon dosing
3-bio bellets
4- ur advice (plz mention ur way )

The first three are all forms of carbon dosing. I think that got lost somewhere in this all. That is why, it is "somewhat" (and I truly mean this loosly) redundant at this point for your situation to pick up another form until you have one "completely" on line. Your issue right now is the bacterial population capacity that results from the increase of carbon sources in your system "from dosing". This increase in population and efficiency, takes time.. That's just my thought(more on my own little selfish experiment below).

There are various forms of carbon dosing, but vodka and pellets are, from everything I have read, studied and spoken with others about the two most popular.

My potential experiment :The thing about all carbon dosing types that intrigues me is not just low nutrients, but enhanced coral color and if anything like pellets, coral mass. I am seriously giving thought to supplement dosing with vodka. I just am not sure as of yet whether it's worth it. I'm already low on nitrate at 1ppm and phosphate at 0.08. My purpose in my 135 gallon (nwv) would be to get the levels even lower than they already are, thus increasing color and growth. I just am not sure at these levels whether it's worth it, and if so, the dosage. Because I am at the moment on a new schedule and building my bacteria with a new strain(s), I am debating whether I should do this now, but the other side of me is like "dude, this is the perfect time if your going to do it". But I don't want to overload and crash the system or coral population I have . It's a very, very slippery slope.

Sorry to get sidetracked, but I figured it may be beneficial in this thread since the OP is also running pellets, though they have yet to kick in..

Thx Damon that what I'm trying now .
I want to have better idea how to drop nitrate ,
So while I start bellets reactor I will give it chance as u said , and will continue with water change weekly now , to see result .
I tried before turf scrubber algea if u heard about, but I get many problem from water voice dropping and cleaning the screen .
Will wait for more three weeks since I notice nothing effect on my coral .

Yes, I have done a turf scrubber. Lol, lot of maintenence.

Also, be sure to keep testing every few days. That way you'll know when it does fly kick in.

With mccarroll on this one. I think you have a bad test kit. For you to have a nitrate problem on a 6 month old tank seems way off. If you've double and triple checked and for sure have nitrates however then....
Over feeding?
And 30-50% wc every 3 days will fix.
If big wc doesn't fix then consider your water source as the main problem.
Good luck!

May I suggest using NoPox from Red Sea, my nitrates were the same way and had a hard time getting them under control. After using a daily dose of NoPox my nitrates now never get over .25 ppm. This stuff works and never have to do a water change to control my nitrates. It builds an army of good bacteria to defeat those **** nitrates! I swear by this stuff. Red Sea has really stepped there game up!

Thx mate for ur comment , I tried before sera test kit , and now API ,
For water source I do test also nitrate zero , tds 0, 001 ppm I have RO system
Before two week ago nitrate was around 25 ppm and now get spike alot specially when I vaccum sand and clean sump .
If can can send md the link for this product of red sea
Thx in advance

You shouldn't vacuum your and only surface clean it. It's not good to dig into it.
