I think it would be cool if he added another variable like feeding or at least increasing no3 and Po4 into this experiment. May be that's the reason some corals can handle higher par.

And yes Ive been experimenting here. The Po was high, the xena was great the acro was meh. Increased Par, the xena was amazing the acro and stylos EXPLODED, the No was low and the shrooms shrunk. now no is higher the shrooms are happier and wide again.

To me that is a overly complex lighting schedule that is not needed and I would look at that first. As the nutrient levels are not so low that supplemental feeding with proper water flow can't make up for deficiencies in nutrient related growth issues. Bump the temp up to 80 for a little extra growth to. The increased temp will speed up the metabolisms of the corals increasing growth. Food web reproduction will also increase and give your corals extra live foods.

With the on off of each lighting they keep having to adjust to the different spectrum and lighting types and intensities and i think this is causing decencies. I would make that as simple as possible. Here are some options. Leave the T5 on for 10 to 12 hrs and have a peak time for MH of 6 hrs. Swap the 14K MH bulb (or not) for a 20k one and run the T5 actinic as supplemental and have the T5 run 2 hrs before and after the MH. The T5 will stay on for your photo period with no on\off and the 2 hr before and after give you a sun rise\ sunset effect. When I used to run MH for years this is how I run them, 12 hr T5 6 hrs MH with no growth or color issues.

Or leave the MH on for 10-12 hrs and have the T5 for peak time of a few hrs. I myself run my main lighting (in my case now LED and works for MH to) for 12 hrs and have a peak time with my T5 on for 2.5 hrs nowadays.

Regardless go slow in making any lighting adjustments.
