Started reefing 4 years ago. Moved from 10-20-45-75 gallon. Never really was into sticks until now. Got some sps frags (including a milli) and none have any PE even at night. They come from a tank in which they were getting crazy light and flow and my tank maxes at 250-300 par where they are now. They get that max at 3 hours per day with a ramp up and down totaling 12 hours.

parameters

1.025 salinity
7 nitrates
.10 phosphates
450 cal
1400 mag
Alk 8.1-8.4

My first thought is ICP test to rule out anything crazy.

Also I have a small clown goby. He sits on some acros but I can’t believe he is the reason that over 10 acro frags have zero PE.

That is weird, post a pic if you can. I would guess you have red bugs or similar other acro parasite, but could be the fish if you see it perching on the acros all of the time.

This hase been an ongoing issue in my tank. Any acro I purchased last few years has had no pe. I’d say red bugs but I’ve also flipped tanks and all other similar sps are fine and flourishing. Here’s a milli with color but no PE

Do you mean all other sps in the other tank are good with polyp extension as well? Sometimes it is hard to see redbugs but interceptor is a good treatment if you can get your hands on it (if it turns out to be redbugs)

No acros have polyp extension. The past 3 years any acro I get has PE for a day then it goes away. Here are my longest sps that I got as small frags.

The clown goby is definitely part of it (if not all of it) They nip at SPS polyps and eventually will stress the corals to the point of dying. I would remove him ASAP.

That being said I can’t imagine in all these tanks with all these fish one little cm fish harasses huge colonies of corals. My tang was nipping at corals as well. He’s gone

Do some research on Clown Gobies. I made the same mistake once.

Also since PE isn’t even at night it could be just them becoming acclimated. I can always get rid of the fish…if I can catch him

I'm not saying the Clown Goby is the only reason, but I assure you that it is a factor. No PE at night is not a good sign. How long has the tank been running, and how long have the frags been in the tank?

Oh yeah. When I got the goby I was all lps so no worries.

tank has been up for a couple years.
Newer frags only been a few weeks

I caught him and he’s in a smaller tank.
Hard to say but I doubt he’s your problem.. I have a coral beauty that loves to nip my Sps.. as soon as it does the polyps retract but then come back out in a few minutes with no I’ll effects.. I have a mili that won’t throw its polyps out for anything but it’s healthy and growing very well.. the coral beauty never pays attention to it.. it actually loves my digis lol.. go figure… hasn’t put a dent in the polyps thou.

I’m in the same boat. I have him out of the tank in another one for now. We’ll see

almost night icp test but could just be throwing money away?

So clown goby gone
Icp test on the way

Not a polyp in sight. Flow on my other sps (pavona) has those whiskers under constant motion so I’m kinda ruling out flow.

as mentioned above par is in the 200-300 range and I can slowly creep up.
It’s gotta be something
