We are all in this together

Open to anything! I want to eventually have both fish and corals...
This is your tank. I agree with above. Don’t buy on impulse it leads to headaches and a lighter wallet. Have a plan and stick to it.

So.... I am going to finally get to test my water today (supplies came in the mail)! Since I missed out on any readings from the first 5 days I plan on picking up dr Tim’s bacteria and ammonia on the way home from work in case I get readings of zero and need to see if a cycle is actually happening at all. Once I can confirm that the ammonia is being taken up and processed in the proper fashion and that my water parameters are right, I plan on adding a clean up crew consisting of nassarius snails, hermits, etc. I’m just curious if anyone has any suggestions on how many of each kind for a 32 biocube with about 30 lbs of rock? Basically I need help creating a list of species I want for my crew and all need to be reef safe as I plan to add corals as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Also, here’s my list so far of fish I might like:

2 Clownfish (I like the uniquely colored ones)
1 Fire shrimp
1 blenny (so many different ones I can’t decide which I like)
1 firefish
1 goby (orange spotted looks cool or a yellow watchman... Catalina looks awesome too)

Also, I’ve heard about pistol shrimp and gobies having a relationship and pairing so that might be cool. Would I need to choose between the fire shrimp and the pistol?

Any thoughts on the list (exclusions or additions welcome as well)! Thanks guys for all the loooove!

I would start small, say 2-3 each, then monitor them and add more as needed. I would wait until the initial cycle is complete. With a new tank there may not be much for them to eat, so watch closely.

For your clean up crew until your tank matures you may need to supplement food.

Looks like a good list. I have a watchman and a yellow clown goby. They are awesome fish. Looking at getting a green clown goby in the not so distant future.

Day 5 -

- tested water:
Ph: 7.4 -8 (would like a bit more certainty here)
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0

-added bottle of instant ocean

- added small amount of fish food

My plan is to test the water in the morning to see how the system reacts.

Couldn’t find dr Tim’s at the store today...

Day 6

After testing the water last night I also added some birthday gifts to the tank:

Intank media basket (filter floss, chemipure elite, purigen)

Eshopps nano protein skimmer

My only issue is that the skimmer is overflowing with foam. I let it run all last night and woke up to this:

My plan is to let it keep running and hope it’s a “break-in period”.

Any thoughts on this skimmer or ways to combat this issue of wayyyy too much foam?

Also, after adding the bacteria and a bit of fish food I will be testing the water again when I get home from work to see if I can observe cycling...

Thanks!
