Budget is low. I’m looking to by a house closer to my work. I just became supervisor in another state. Put in an offer today so fingers crossed. So as well as a low budget I’m also in no hurry to get an anemone. This is kind of a fact finding mission. Also, just my little tirade against costs of lights in general. Wasn’t the introduction of LEDs supposed to decrease the cost of lighting in general? Cheaper costs leading to a more efficient light? Seems it worked backward. My only wish, to find the cheapest method to accomplish my goals. I don’t wish to have a huge tank. I only want to invest what my needs require. Long ago I went big and bold. And of course reckless. Wasted thousands of dollars on a setup that was rushed and watched it crash. Older and hopefully wiser, I know what I want and it’s just simple. My hermit crabs doing their thing and an anemone swaying in the current.Ah, I am familiar with these. I use one for a 5 gallon planted freshwater tank. I would not buy it again because of lack of spectrum and intensity control.
We can recommend some better options for you, can I ask what is your honest budget?
I totally understand your point of view! However, there is still a little bit of "you get what you pay for" with any sort of lighting or reefing equipment.Budget is low. Thanks for the advice and well wishesI totally understand your point of view! However, there is still a little bit of "you get what you pay for" with any sort of lighting or reefing equipment.
That being said, if it'll fit in your budget, the Noopsyche K7 mini (linked below) will do everything you need and then some, and for $83. This is the most affordable fixture that I can recommend in good faith based on functionality, power, quality and your tank size. Best of luck with the new home purchase, too!

I have 5 blue leg hermit crabs. The joy of my world. I’m a simple guy and can watch them pretty much nonstop. I got the blues cause several places I read said reds were like little assassins. And as for rock flower anemones. I have no knowledge about them. I was looking at tube anemones. Since they prefer darker areas and don’t require photosynthesis, may have used wrong word. But you all know what I mean. They just eat food and don’t require sunlight from what I gathered from my reading.Welcome to R2R. What hermit crabs do you have? I read once that red legged might eat anemone. But I can't personally verify that. Have you looked at a rock flower anemone instead? They are smaller and would probably fit your small tank better. Just a thought.
If that light is right around where you want to stay for budget, you could consider a generally well known and trusted light
What’s your opinion on this light? I’m not discounting the k7 mini. I saw it on sale at a site and am considering this but someone showed me this. Reviews look good. But nowadays I trust reviews less and less.
The k7 mini is excellent

I think the most recent light you posted could easily keep a bubble tip anemone if the online reviews are reliable, I am also skeptical about the information posted by random strangers who have time to post and the desire and motivation to do so?I have 5 blue leg hermit crabs. I've never used this one myself but I hear good things, though the wireless functionality might be a make or break for some people. I have tried a few crazy budget lights, the Nicrew line are good with a reliable warranty, and the Reef breeders Pico V2 is a great light. It mostly depends on what you want your light to do. Timer of some kind is usually standard, but the controllability of lighting spectrum to some degree is usually a good addition.
So true. I make no moves until I’m dead certain. And sometimes my decisions even workI think the most recent light you posted could easily keep a bubble tip anemone if the online reviews are reliable, I am also skeptical about the information posted by random strangers who have time to post and the desire and motivation to do so?
I think that tube anemones may get more energy from capturing food than from the sunlight? If that is true then this light will be enough but you may need to feed the nem more which could be difficult if the hermit crabs try to steal food from the anemone. I would wonder if a tube anemone would eat the hermits?
Lots to consider,
Welcome to Reef2Reef.

I’ve had larger tanks in the past. Loved them. But I’m not wanting a lot of things. As I mentioned earlier I’m a simple guy. I don’t want a big display. Im happy with a small tank for me and my hermit crabs. And eventually I will upgrade. Eventually. I just want to appreciate the few items I get. With just my crabs crawling all over the sand and rock that keeps me happy. The question on the anemone is just a question. Not a huge desire.Welcome to the family! Can I suggest you upgrade to a larger tank? You’ll be able to keep so many cool things in it.
