Everytime I join in on a live sale I am surprised by the lack of names highlighted in yellow. For those that don't know when you support R2R your name will be highlighted in yellow. Their may be several hundred fellow reefers enjoying the live sale and at best 5 percent of them r supporting members. Without R2R we would not have these awesome live sales that @TopShelfAquatics, @joeknowsreefs, @WWC, @CherryCorals have. As for myself, I am new to this hobby, only been in it for a little over 2 months and R2R has helped me greatly. When ever I have questions, and I have had a bunch, all I had to do is look at the forums and I always found answers, and when they weren't their someone would help in the discussion section. For instance, the other day I found out my salinity was way off and was about to waste a ton of salt water doing water changes when I found an article saying put it in your ATO and allow it to slowly raise it. I did this and it has worked out perfectly. That's just one reason and I'm sure many other reefers have similar story's and reasons to support R2R. It's only 25 dollars a year, a very small price for this type of support.

Let's see more names in yellow and if you haven't please join.

I think it is nice that you want to see more people supporting R2R monetarily. But your post feels like an effort to shame non-supporting members into doing so. This is wrong.

What you fail to realize is that support comes in many different forms and not just monetary.

There are extremely active members on R2R. They may not support monetarily, but they have 30 years of experience that they share. I feel members who are on every day, reading and answering questions are equally important.

This is in no way me trying to shame people, just me trying to help R2R, if it was takin in that way then I apologize.

I agree with you. I used R2R for about a year before I noticed that there was an option to support it. Actually I noticed the banner on some people. It isn’t much money at all. Especially for us in this hobby. I was happy to support and get my banner. Maybe more will based on this thread. Not out of guilt but just because they didn’t know or think about it before.

I’m going to by pass your first half of your argument because I believe it came out worse than what you intended.

I understand where you’re coming from and your perspective but money in and of itself isn’t necessary to support something. Yeah it’s a great way to quantify how much you care but there are better more effective ways.

As far as donating money, sorry I believe there are other issues that are far more pressing that need my hard earn dollar and time.

I still love you R2R so don’t ban me.

Seems like in trying to do a good deed I created a conflict, either way we r all reefers with a awesome hobby and may you have good luck on your tanks now and in the future.

Site supporter or not, we are all a reefing family and community. If youd like to support the site great! If not, still great. As long as your kind, curious, and helpfully engaged with the community you're welcome here :)

It's a voluntary contribution and a choice. For me it's a no brainer; I want to support this website because this forum has been a primary source of information and has provided hours of entertainment reading, contributing and networking with others in the hobby. I know I don't have to, but for me supporting the site is a way to say thankyou and help in a small way with the operating costs for a resource that I very much wish to see continue to exist and succeed.

Besides it's $25 bucks. I've spent more than that on an ugly brown stick sitting on a plug forgotten in the rear of my frag rack. . . before shipping! :D

You put it in better words than I did

I don't think there was any harm in pointing this out.

In fact I think it's something that a lot of folks are at least a little curious about and maybe your example is worth thinking through.

So just to add up the numbers since it's on-topic.....and assuming your 5% is right and applicable...(may not be)

95000+ members * 5% = 4750+ paying members.

4750 * $25 = $118,750 per year

Maybe that's less than some folks here make. ;Wideyed

How much do you think should R2R make?

Why does it matter?

I will say that this is the only forum I have ever contributed money to....actually I have never even considered joining another forum and I frequent A LOT due to my numerous hobbies....this site must be doing something right ;)

$118,750 per year

I think about useless things also.,,,,...Now i wonder if that $$$$ will even cover the server space......This site has to have a lot of horse power and storage;Greedy;Greedy;Greedy

I'll admit before reading this thread I don't think I knew their was a paid supporter status, I see peoples shiny banners and wondered about them but not enough to investigate. Because of this post I will look into it now as I do enjoy this site & the staff at Reefapalooza NY were very nice to my son & I.

Like it has been stated by several people and I failed to mention, their r several ways you can support R2R, whether its knowledge, or in my case being so new to the hobby, to support thru paying 25 dollars, or even just being a good reefer. What ever anyone's decision is on how they want to support R2R, it is appreciated I'm sure.

I supported R2R because it has provided a centralized community resource that has helped me innumerous times. In no way should people feel obligated to do the same however. Providing knowledge and experience to help fellow reefers is far more valuable to the hobby as a whole.

USMC 4 LIFE, as a prior Moderator, Super Moderator, Mentor, on several fish forums and Administrator/Owner of one forum. I enjoyed respected all members regardless of support, etcetera and never banned anyone for not paying for any kind of support.

I have no doubt the great person owning this forum nor any of the Mods would ever think of banning anyone for not paying a fee of any kind. Banning only comes when conduct is unbecoming for various reasons.
