Not enough R2R support

Everytime I join in on a live sale I am surprised by the lack of names highlighted in yellow. For those that don't know when you support R2R your name will be highlighted in yellow. Their may be several hundred fellow reefers enjoying the live sale and at best 5 percent of them r supporting members. Without R2R we would not have these awesome live sales that @TopShelfAquatics, @joeknowsreefs, @WWC, @CherryCorals have. As for myself, I am new to this hobby, only been in it for a little over 2 months and R2R has helped me greatly. When ever I have questions, and I have had a bunch, all I had to do is look at the forums and I always found answers, and when they weren't their someone would help in the discussion section. For instance, the other day I found out my salinity was way off and was about to waste a ton of salt water doing water changes when I found an article saying put it in your ATO and allow it to slowly raise it. I did this and it has worked out perfectly. That's just one reason and I'm sure many other reefers have similar story's and reasons to support R2R. It's only 25 dollars a year, a very small price for this type of support.

Let's see more names in yellow and if you haven't please join.

I understand what you were saying! I did the same article post as you did but got no traction. Support R2R if you can, if not it's ok... Just happy R2R is here. "This new world is way to politically correct"

I don't think there was any harm in pointing this out.

In fact I think it's something that a lot of folks are at least a little curious about and maybe your example is worth thinking through.

So just to add up the numbers since it's on-topic.....and assuming your 5% is right and applicable...(may not be)

95000+ members * 5% = 4750+ paying members.

4750 * $25 = $118,750 per year

Maybe that's less than some folks here make. ;Wideyed

How much do you think should R2R make?

Well, net and gross are certainly different... especially when you look at the hosting cost of database and webservers among other things like general support.

But I do agree that there are many ways to support such an awesome community :)

You can also get site supporter status and the benefits, free for a year by being helpful, courteous and welcoming!

It's a great forum imo! The live sales deal is kinda hard to gauge support by. Usually nearly half that are in those sales threads are not even registered members. Nice that you're not forced to sign up (even for free) to participate in the vendors live sales. I would be willing to wager that some that come for those sales specifically, sign up for the forum. Then some of those end up becoming a R2R supporter one way or another, or in multiple ways!

I've never felt obligated or pushed to do anything I don't care to on this forum (I know that's not the point of the op). I think it's up to each individual. I also have faith R2R will continue to be the best forum available for us all regardless. :-)

I think it is nice that you want to see more people supporting R2R monetarily. But your post feels like an effort to shame non-supporting members into doing so. This is wrong.

What you fail to realize is that support comes in many different forms and not just monetary.

There are extremely active members on R2R. They may not support monetarily, but they have 30 years of experience that they share. I feel members who are on every day, reading and answering questions are equally important.

I don't support R2R money wise but I try and support R2R in other ways such as reaching out to others that may have a problem tank to help resolve those issue. Participating in threads that need answers quickly. Not many reefers in Nashville Tn but if there were I got plenty of nice corals I wouldn't mind letting go of for real cheap/free if it meant something to them! Supporting R2R doesn't have to come with money. there are plenty of ways to support such as knowledge which I think is the biggest support IMO.

I think that supporting monetarily a forum comes with the time and appreciation but that's a choice that we have. There's many ways to support this forum . At the beginning of learning about saltwater fishkeeping I went thru different forums looking for information and end up here, R2R. Here's where I basically learn what I know right now and still learning from not only the articles but also from other experience members that answer any question that I have with a solution. So, the reason I support this forum is a token of appreciation I have for the effort and time that the person or group that put this site together to make reefing a little bit easy for new members and also to create a great reefing community.

After reading through here I felt compelled and just sent through a contribution membership payment.

Afterall, without this forum, I would have lost nearly $500 worth of fish with my recent emergency. Not feeling obligated, but more so appreciative of the entire vibe and maturity that is carried throughout all the threads here.

@revhtree Happy to be a part of the family you oversee here. Now gimme my dang yellow badge! ;Cyclopso_O:D:p

I also will say I am "paying I forward" cause when I start ramping up for my 55g to DIY custom sump you bet your fannies i'm gonna have a thread full of Q&A !! ;Joyful;Troll

We love all who support us and use this site as a counsel or a hang out spot. Everyone supports in their own way, be it monetary or by sharing your knowledge with the rest of us(sometimes this is more valuable than anything else). So keep up the good work everyone! We all strive to make this a better forum, the BEST forum.

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn’t know you could give. What’s the process for becoming a supporter. I’m always on here freeloading.

If you select your user name at the top of the page, select "Account Upgrades" and from there you can choose "Supporting Member" :)

How much for a "Super Duper Supporter" banner? I have my credit card ready :D
That'd be partner member, but that only comes around once a year ;)

There are people like me who don't like the live sales.
I choose to show my support in other ways.

If a vendor has a coral I want, I usually just buy it.
