dip tomorrow will be the beginning of week 6
-> so far all looking good.
Im thinking another couple weeks and i should be golden to put the corals back in the DT
@Diesel you were right mate the frags are slowly coloring up as they get used to the new fresh QT conditions.
Think they will all be ok to make it through the final two weeks to complete a full 8 weeks of dipping.

You can do it!
Let me know if and when they go back in the DT and I'll send you a Rainbow Blossom as a congrats on your successful battle against the AEFW

Is there a reason you moved the coral to another tank to dip? I always see people have better luck dipping from the display. I would believe the aefw are dead if left in the display with no acros. I think I read newly hatched aefw died within a few days without a host acro to feed on. I don't think we know how long adults live with no host but I doubt it would be more than a month. Someone should experiment with this if it hasn't been done. This is one reason I like to tell people to dip right out of the display.
I would say going through the last two weeks would be perfect, you haven't seen anything I. A while and two more weeks would definitely put you at ease. Good luck! Thanks for documenting your progress.

It's been done and I followed it closely as Tektite is only 10 miles from me and talked to her by text many times about this research she did with Kate.

just did first dip of weeks 6
-no aefw in the dip/rinse bucket
-Not sure if im getting crazy with the eggs--> after staring at the bases of 100 frags/colonies i start to imagine any green speck/algae to be an egg
-> anything that caught my eye was scraped off. But with no adults in the dip im not sure these are really eggs anyway.
So far so good-> stay the course.

out of curiosity how are all you guys protecting your hands during the dips? Isn't bayer a carcinogen? I bought some of the long kitchen gloves but i was curious what others were doing.
I beat aefw once with the weekly dipping but lost half my corals to unstable small qt container i had them in. Then got them again 2 years later (still didn't have room for a qt in my office). Working on basement fish room now with a qt for corals but it's just hard to keep them happy for the full period for sure.

@Diesel yeah i think its probably just algae but im kinda gunshy at this stage given im so close to the end of this nightmare!
I didnt take any pics but i will if i see any at the next dipping
@Outdrsyguy1 yeah i have an 80G frag system i put them in but its a new system so have had a couple not do well because of the new setup.

Hang in there. I went through a 10 weeks total QT. I had aefws. I pulled all SPS from the DT, and set up a QT. The corals got stressed, from both aefws and new lights and lost color. But 1 month later the colors have come back strong. First green, now blue, red and pink. Yellow is taking longer.

I'll give you one guess who helped me through this. He lent me a QT frag tank with lights, he also walked me through the plumbing/set up. This wasn't the first time he helped either. He knowledge and willingness to help is the reason my son's tank is thriving.

After looking real hard is what meant...

Looking at pictures of eggs before I dipped always helped relieve my thoughts of seeing eggs that weren't there.

ok well i hope this nightmare is over.
I have completed the 8 weeks of bayer dipping and quarantine with the main display devoid of acros for all that time. I lost some corals primarily due to the stress of a new qt rather than anything else. I hope and pray this is over. The corals are now back in the main tank and has been a couple days and they are already looking happier.
Will be months before they all recover their colors though.
Ah well all part of the hobby i guess.

Same thing happened to me. I lost 4 frags once they went back in. One I lost 2 months later. It started coloring up then turned dark and finally gone. It happened in 7 days. Nothing I could do. It was right near corals thriving.

But QTing the corals to get rid of aefws was totally worth it.

I put them back in just over 2 months ago. There are no signs of aefws. I posted my story about 5 to 6 posts ago. The one acro that would have them if any is the tri color valida, it shows no signs.
