I really feel like an butt now. Really sorry. I just can't stand people making fun of others no matter what. Nobody likes to be belittled. I've been doing this for 3+ years and I know I still know nothing compared to others I do do a lot of reading and research but obviously not enough all the time . I'm a husband ,a father of two , a hard worker. I've been surfing for 24 years but would never make fun of someone just starting out. Also been training mma and Brazilian jiu jitsu 6 years, so I got my fair share of hobbies. Once again sorry just hope people here don't get the wrong idea of me. Just saw a lot of lols for a post that wasn't funny to me.

eh. they were congratulating you on the success of no3 dosing and coloration.

no one likes to watch their corals pale and die.

Dude it's such a small tank I just got filter floss purigen and chemi pure elite in an in tank media box. 20% wc once a week. I have a reef octopus nano but haven't put it in yet.

Ok cool if you continue dosing and ur nitrate levels drop overnight or every other day , your either going to have to get more fish or continue on dosing , acropower is basically a amino n phosphate supplement , now all u need is a dosing pump lol

I'm on it. Just need a couple more side jobs to pay for a good doser. This was supposed to be a "cheaper" build. Micro ato , reefkeeper, reef octopus, o and I started culturing rotifers for feeding. Any one do this? Worried about adding too much livestock to such a little tank then having spikes.

Honestly, I'm running a small system like you, SPS primarily. Was having the same issues as you and running the same filtration (purigen, chemi-pure elite, skimmer, filter floss). Two small fish, small clean up crew. Corals were paleing and receding. I got rid of the purigen and chemi-Pure, fed more, and run my skimmer off and on depending on trates/po4. Once a week 3G water change, and poof, major turn around in growth and color. Keep it simple with a small set up, shouldn't need to dose trates or po4, your nutrient export could be overkill. Saves you some cash too, which we can all agree is good!

I was gonna ask if I should remove the media. Just worried of too quick of a rise in one or both, but I guess it's quick fix with a WC.

I was worried about that too, but that media really does a number on a small tank, it took me a week of feeding heavy to get my trates to register using Saliftert. Still struggle to get my po4 to show, still hasn't, but I'm sure there's some there, just not enough to register with Salifert. If you are worried, hook up that skimmer and feed a little heavier but skim wet. Then test everyday and monitor it that way. You'll see that it takes quite a bit, especially if you skim 24/7, to bring those values up by feeding....which i believe is the best way to bring them up.

So your only using filter floss and a skimmer? No carbon?

Correct. I'm running a +/- 18g shallow reef (jbj 20g frag tank), bare bottom. I just run my skimmer (innovative marine ghost, small one) and a sponge for filter floss. I do dose Dr Tim's Waste Away bacteria, about 4 ml, every time I do a water change. Water change is usually every week or so, 3G at a time. And that's it. I feed Rods Reef, Cyclopeez, and some dry LPS stuff I make into a paste. In no particular order or time frame. I just keep an eye out for when my LPS look hungry, and my SPS benefit from the excess blowing around. But I keep it simple, skimmer, sponge to catch large stuff, and bacteria addition. That's it.....
