Yeah I suppose. They’re just not nearly as profound as what I’ve seen in photographs no matter when I look at it. I’ve stayed up all throughout various hours with the lights on and after they went out to try and witness the projections on it. I assume the white tips are a sign of growth?

Anyways that’s way neat, if you happen to get a chance to photograph the black corals, I’d love to see them. I know @Jomama is working on helping me source one. I find them to be incredibly fascinating. The spiral shape would really tie together a certain spot in my display.

Yeah for sure, next time I have some free time at work I'll try to snap a pick of some our NPS. Be warned though, the tank is thick acrylic and cylindrical with very very heavy actinic lighting so pictures might not be the best

No worries. I’d still be interested in seeing them. If you have a photo editing app such as Snapseed (free) you can turn up the warmth and adjust the white balance to help mimic the true colors.

Oh trust me I am very adept with coral photography. I've tried with this tank but even white balance adjustments don't serve the corals justice

Thanks for sharing, I feed very similar only difference is I use fresh guano for beneficial bacteria in food.

I actually saw immediate response from deep water gorgonions to feeding live black mussels from seafood counter. I used the opportunity to transfer Red Tree & Yellow Tree from cryptic refugium into 120G with RFUG filter. Lights went out 30 minutes ago and it is the middle of the night. All trees are flying their flags. I am very happy with this move.

We are both feeding live gut cavity bacteria. I got my idea from @Paul B who had it right about bacteria 40 years ago. Paul’s focus was healthy fish immune systems using healthy live gut cavity bacteria from marine bivalves. I know that NPS gorgonions like it.

I tried locating, in our hobby no more. LA sell clams that are aclimated for reef tank . Live Aquaria

I have had Turkey Clams on live rock that lived for several years.

I buy live black mussels from HEB seafood counter. I do not know if they would live long term in reef tank temperatures. I am now curious and will attempt a few when I get access to a fresh batch. If you have decorative clams in your display, I would not jeopardize them with a possible pest from wild bivalve.

When I set up my first marine tank, I lived on Galveston Bay, which was the theme of my first tank in 1971. I used collected oyster clusters with numerous barnacles that were actively feeding. I knew nothing in those days. There was no internet. No instant ocean. All water was collected with 5G buckets on an incoming tide. I removed passenger bucket seat from VW beetle and transported natural sea water in two 30G garbage cans. It was a great learning experience and gave me an appreciation that I have not lost after those 47 years.

Did the barnacles spread in your old tank? Like white tiny feather dusters do?

Freshwater mussels made a lake near me shut down... they can be very invasive

Yeah, the salt water ones grow on bridge piles locally.

Very impressive reproduction. Not planning on adding those to the tank.

The barnacles did not spread in my old tank and gradually went away. In our southern fresh water lakes, zebra mussels are a serious threat.
