I have a frag of these palys and In curious what parameters are best for color and growth. They are on the bottom for light acclimation at the moment. I've heard they prefer lower light, is this true?

In the sump sealed in an acrylic box.
Better yet, in the trash.
Not being mean but these things are invasive af
Pretty much.

Might not want to handle them with bare hands.
They do take a lot of light and are fine with it.

I've touched palys before without any issues. I always wash my hand vigorously when I handle any corals. At least they look nice so I dont mind them being invasive. I might just frag them down the line with some eye protection and a good blade.

Um. Sadly there under a bit less light than my t5 and had better color then.

Show us a pic of frag.....I think people might be confusing Nuclear Greens with Green Implosions, Nuclear Greens are more like Purple Deaths and Red Deaths. The Green Implosions are the ones that grow like weeds. My Nuke Greens get kinda yellowish with higher nitrates. Sometimes they will have "two face" polyps of mixed colors when grown with purple or red deaths. I have had success at all levels of the tank.....just don't move them around too much.

Thanks for the advice. I will what works by moving them up slightly.

Mine are darker green and bigger in lower light... maybe 100 par. Grow ok in 200 also, but the are a lighter-- not as pretty or large in higher light.

Toadstool,
ChiCity isn't being a tool, he is giving you GOOD ADVICE. These things will take over your whole tank. Whatever rock they are on, keep it in the sand and DO NOT let that rock abutt against any other rocks. In my old 75, I spent years trying to destroy nuclear green palys with an aiptasia zapper.

Good point.
The three that come Up most commonly under that name are it seems the ones that spread. But a confirmation is good.

I will keep an eye on it. Cant I just use a razor to frag them off the rocks?

I will get a pic tomorrow as the photo period for the light is over. It comes back on at 7am. However the paly looks like a purple death but green instead of purple if any of you were wondering.

You must be VERY CAREFUL if you do that, wear gloves. Palytoxin is a very potent poison and our emergency rooms are completely unequipped to deal with it. Not to mention how ticked the corals around it will be, if you have to do it in tank. I would only get rid of those things with a zapper.

Nuclear greens aren't the same as the invasive protopalys.

Nuke greens aren't near as invasive and look great mixed with purple deaths and can occasionally mix and create what's called a "two face paly".

Green protopalys can live in a sump with no light or food for ever. Very tough to remove and uber toxic.

The Green Implosions I have are huge and a nice vibrant dark green. They will spread over just about anything and I would highly recommend that if you want to keep these, to keep them isolated on a separate rock. (These are one of those corals every beginner should be warned about before putting in their tank. I'd like to see a tank full of these and pulsing xenia and see what would win out) I have used a forceps/large tweezers to gently peel them off of rocks to keep them from other corals, but it will be a losing battle. More than a few chunks of rock with these (and pink n golds/fairydusts) have ended up tossed outside under my deck to let nature deal with them. Obviously you need to be aware of palyotoxin and take the necessary safety precautions when dealing with these. I personally have never had any problems, but everyone is different. I never had any adverse reactions in my tank either when peeling these palys off of the rocks.

Sorry for bad phone pic but here are the palys. Im sure they are nuclear greens, but they look yellow for some reason. Should they be high ir low?
