Can anyone help me please I cant get my nutrients anywhere near, latest icp shows 0.01 nitrate and 0.05 phosphate only have salifert tests for these two

Your phosphate is pretty much perfect and a good target is less than 0.03ppm.

If you want to get nitrates up, add more fish and a good target is around 5-10ppm nitrate

And Welcome to R2R as well!

Nothing wrong with your phosphate.

First the obligatory slew of questions begging for all the relevant details...

What's the volume?
What export methods are you using? Skimmer? Refugium? Carbon dosing?
Do you have a lot of corals?
Are you dosing anything else like iron supplements, NoPox or other?
What's the rest of your parameters? Alkalinity can tie into the consumption of nitrate and phosphate by corals.

I have a reefer 250 for almost 2 years now, quite a few coral but only a few sps due to my not being able to grow them :( have a pair of clowns, purple tang, coral beauty, chalk goby, scooter blenny, bicolour blenny, peacock wrasse, royal gramma and a flasher wrasse. So I'm not understocked which is confusing me. Chaeto refugium with a kessil h80 reverse cycle, about 1L of ceramic media, bubble magus c5 and filtersocks, nothing fancy like these pellet reactors or filter rollers so i dont see why I'm battling low no3

Temp 25.5
SG 1.025
Kh 7.4
Cal 430
Mag 1290

I want to up my kh but im dosing ati pro and it says to dose equal measures

Here's what I'd do.
Cut the refugium lighting period and/or drop the intensity to half and ditch the ceramic media.
Wait 2 weeks and test every couple of days to see what happens. Don't change anything else in the meantime.

Save that for later once you balance the nitrates and phosphates. You can just add a one time bump to increase the kH, the daily dosing is just keeping up with the daily consumption, which may change a little after you bump it up, and will probably change becuase of the increase you're looking for in Nitrate.

All of your help is much appreciated, I'm getting frustrated with the hobby now as ive been doing it for almost 4 years without any real success, my 12 month old monti cap has only just began basing

Nice tank! I'd bet you're just missing that one little detail to see things start to take off.
I'm currently fighting the opposite problem where my nitrates and phosphates are riding a little high (25 ish and .2), so none of my montis have been happy.

Thanks I'll adjust it now, just worried about my po4 going up faster than my nitrate but i have some rowaphos at hand

Thanks dude hopefully thats all it will take, i get what you mean, its so frustrating when we spend thousands on this hobby to get little in return at times

It's a bit of a balancing act. My target is about 0.08 to 0.1 for phos to keep my softies and euphyllia happy. I'm determined to try and balance it with the lighting period on my refugium, which is why I'm avoiding any sort of GFO. Slow process, but here's hoping that gives me a smooth landing.

Don't give up! Best advice I can give you with SPS is to watch the corals! don't get too bent out of shape with numbers when it comes to N/P. I had a low nutrient issue and literally all my monti's bleached. I started dosing N/P and it took several weeks, but everything recovered. Patience is so important. And what is amazing about SPS is how the will remain dormant and then start to sprout like crazy. I have the suspicion that you are close. Hang in there and be patient!

I look at it this way: I didn't buy a reef tank, I bought a science experiment... lol

Thanks man, I love this forum already so much more informative and easy going than these Facebook groups, will be my go place from now on I'll put the advice into practice and hopefully see the results
